  1. pm sent, Tom! After a thorough cleaning - and in the light of day - it looks like it's got a slight leak in the open position too. Thanks to all for the input. This forum has been such a huge help. Joe
  2. '85 Brat, 5-speed D/R (otherwise stock) After a frustrating day trying to find the source of brake fluid loss (and periodic soft pedal), I traced it to the hill holder. When the clutch pedal is depressed and the brake system is pressurized, it leaks fluid like a Harley. Clutch pedal out, no leak whatsoever. The hill holder isn't a necessity for me, so do I A. Rebuild/replace it? Folllowup questions, how complicated is a rebuild and does anybody have a used one they're willing to part with for a reasonable price? 2. Disconnect the cable, add the return spring and hope what's left of the seal holds? 3. Bypass it completely? Please keep in mind that I'm in the road salt belt of the Northeast, there aren't many (none) donor vehicles in the local boneyards. Thanks in advance, Joe
  3. Tough one to get a good shot of, hopefully this'll do
  4. If that's the case, I'm wondering if I can tell by examining the bell housing to look for the "modification" prior to separating the engine. Or... any idea how many teeth there are on the EA81 flywheel? If I mark one tooth and count while I turn it one revolution would that work? The concern here is that I'm borrowing a hoist from a friend, and I'd hate to have it tied up any longer than necessary. It never seems to work out as planned, but I want to at least attempt to have all my ducks in a row ahead of time! Again, thanks a bunch for any and all input! Joe
  5. Forgive a newbie for needing a little hand holding, tried searching but still unsure... I recently bought an '85 Brat already converted to 5 spd d/r, but with a very soft clutch. Based on what I've read here I'll need the kit for the EA82, but it looks like there's two sizes (7-7/8" and 8-7/8"). I have no idea where the transmission came from, so is there a way to determine which is the correct kit? Is there anything else I need to know before I go in? Thanks in advance, Joe
