Wow too many options out there to know exactly what I want to get and actually be able to find. The wagon i'm going to look at is 150 miles away that's why i'm asking alot of questions. Now on the side of the car from what the pictures he sent me it says "4WD TURBO" I think, its not a great pix so I zoomed into that section. Does that mean its full time or part time cause its a push button 4wd 5 speed without a sunroof. He doesn't seem to know much that's why again i'm asking on here.

What exactly is the single and dual range? Now if its push button is it 4hi and could it be used daily or in no traction situations?

Now are all GL-10's AWD or part time 4WD? I would like a full time AWD but how can i tell the difference?

Thanks for all the replies. I just want to make sure what i'm gonna look at this coming weekend and what to look for on this supposedly GL10. I don't want carb thats for sure, since i'm no good at tuning them. Maybe just maybe i'll be a Subaru owner soon........

between a GL-10 and a GL? What kind of luxury options (for 1987) were availble for these vehicles? If 5 speed what axle options came with it if different from an auto? New to Subaru's and found a GL 85 in local junkyard and was surprised how everything was power windows and other pretty nice options. Just wondering before I set myself on buying one. Thanks.

Thats the thing with buying old vehicles. I check all that you mentioned. But like my last purchase i blew the transmission and replaced the engine and a/c and now the rear axle needs replacing. Just my luck I guess. Thats why i'm looking for a economical car for now just to drive about 500 miles a month,if that.

The car had 227k before the engine was replaced by a supposedly jdm 30k engine. I've been reading on the website about what you described when it comes to cooling the engine. Would a engine cooler help anyway? The car is in Texas and will be driven in Texas heat during the summer. Would redoing the radiator and replacing all the hoses help from overheating or is there any troubleshooting problems i should look for? Would looking for a non turbo car be better than this one?

Alright so I'm new here and new to Subaru. I'm always been interested in older vehicles and very different imports. Need to know if these Subs are worth buying and reliable. Found a 87 Subaru Gl10 turbo 5 speed wagon 4x4 or awd, need to know what to look for when buying this vehicle or any other Sub. For example rust issues, where to find the engine tag to make sure it has the right engine with or without a turbo, and if there is a place to look up vin number decoding. I plan on purchasing the car i described and giving it to my son after i make it reliable. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
