  1. First time posting here and semi-DIYer here, so I apologize if i mislabel parts. Here's the situation: 99 legacy L sedan I installed an alpine head unit and speakers years ago when i purchased the vehicle and have not had a problem since. Within the past few days the audio would go in and out while the head unit remained playing. I could hit the side of the middle console and the music would come back on. I figured one of the speaker wires behind the unit was coming loose. So, I disassembled the console last night, pulled out the head unit and jiggled the wires around, removed and reconnected the sockets and what not. Success, or so I thought so. The audio was again working for a good 10 minutes without fail. When putting things back together I noticed the overhead interior light (not the dome, but the map reader type light) went out randomly. Since it is not connected to the door, it should not go out, and never has before (i've accidently left it on and it ran the battery down..). I didn't think too much of it. But when i got the console back in place and put together...the stereo won't power on... I took it back out and re fitted all the wires...still nothing. It was about 1 in the morning so i decided to work on it another day and resort to my ipod today. But something else happened as i closed my car door I noticed that the normal chirp i hear when the door is locked did not go off and the blinking red security light was not blinking. I checked the fuse for the radio but it seems to be fine. Funny thing is...the cigarette lighter still works fine. is there a connection to the map light going out, the head unit not powering and the chirp/red light not working anymore? Any help would be greatly appreciated (i'm a courier....so I'm in my car a lot and need a radio)
