  1. I need to replace the electrical part of the ignition switch. Right now I can't start the car with the ignition. I insert the key and turn it to on, and then use a push button that the previous owner installed, to start the car. I need to replace the switch because it is effecting other things, like my cruise doesn't work and the tranny computer isn't getting all the right signals. Tranny was completely rebuilt, but the tech said things are not working quite right and won't work right til ignition is fixed.
  2. Can anyone point me to a thread or tech article on replacing an ignition switch on an 05 impreza? I cant seem to find a thread on it here.
  3. Just curious. Are you sure its a 4EAT. I have a 05 impreza and the tranny shop calls it a MB3 tranny. I'm concerned I might not be getting the right info from my tranny shop.
  4. OB99W, so glad to see your post here. I've read a lot of your other posts and you are subaru electrical system god! I would really value your advice on this problem.
  5. Wow! that is impressive and a whole lot of stuff to get through!
  6. After driving the car today (my fiance' has had it) I discovered that the tanny is a MB3, not the 4EAT originally suggested. The parking pawl does engage as long as the key is on. As soon as the key is turned off it disengages. I have another thread on this forum about my ignition problems.
  7. Here is a link to an informative article about the 4EAT tranny. Just thought I'd throw it out there if anyone is interested. http://www.northursalia.com/techdocs/pdf/transmission/4eat.pdf
  8. Thanks so much, that was a helpful answer;)
  9. How is that any different from stopping the wheels on one side from turning with a 2x4?
  10. This is the 3rd thread I have started. I want to start by saying thanks to all who gave advice and continue to give advice on the other threads. Now, on to the task. I recently bought a 05 Impreza RS (auto tran). The previous owner had the ignition switch go bad on him and had done the "wire in a button to activate the starter" trick. Now, when the ignition switch failed, he got a check engine light (that is still on), and he lost cruise control. Everything else seems to work ok as far as I can tell. I like to have things to be working correctly and I really like cruise, so I'm going to have to fix it. Any advice on how to go about it? Is this just a switch issue, or is there more to it? Thanks in advance for the help.
  11. Wow nipper! Great idea! One question. Could I do that test by just jacking up one side of the car?
  12. so, in reguards to the second part of my question, is there any way that its somehow tied to the ignition switch?
  13. Its been activated by the shifter on every car I've ever had, but who knows with these new fangled thangs.
  14. Shows you how observant I am. I didnt even notice you were in the springs. I'm not sure when the fiance' is getting back with the car. btw, I'm out in the black forest.
