  1. Thanks John! I thought it looked like it should swap out without much of a problem but the 97 is an interference engine and the 95 is not so I didn't know if there was something else that would prevent a swap. Both cars have an auto trans. As far as a CEL, I can live with that for forever and a day. If I can get this running all it will be used for is a work car for me to drive about 20 miles a day.
  2. I have acquired a couple of cars, one is a 97 Legacy with a bad 2.2L engine but a fairly good body on it and the other is a 95 Impreza with a good 2.2L engine but a torn up suspension and body. Will the good 2.2L Impreza engine swap out with the bad 2.2L Legacy engine? Thanks!
  3. Sorry for not responding sooner but I lost my internet after some strong winds (one of the perils of having satellite internet). I didn't mean for this to turn into a full scale debate but I did find all of the comments interesting. The mechanic that had the car didn't want to do anything with it so I brought it home to play with. I will try to slap on a timing belt and if that doesn't work I will take a look at the valves. I figure it can't be much harder than splitting a 100 hp tractor to replace the clutch and work on the transmission... Thanks again to all who responded to the post!
  4. I broke the timing belt on my 97 Legacy Brighton wagon. My question is this: Is the engine an interference or a non-interference engine in this model year? Thank you in advance for your answers!
