  1. where I live, the dealers charge you some times 4 or 5 times the costs of the same part if you buy it in the US, and they have a very limited stock of EA81 parts, so I have to look on ebay or someplace else in the US and import it.

OK, EA82 gaskets doesn't work on EA81, I will try to sell it around here to get some $$$ hahaha... I'm looking a ISHINO japanese kit on http://www.autopartswarehouse.com , I'm waiting for the credit card aprobation.

    thanks for your answers

  2. Hi everybody, I'm still working on my brat and I need a full gasket set. I bought one from ebay:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/85-94-SUBARU-LOYALE-XT-RX-GL-1-8L-FULL-GASKET-SET-EA82-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQfitsZModelQ3aBratQQhashZitem5d2c410956QQitemZ400174418262QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

but my mechanic friend saw it and he said that that kit is too "cheap quality" and recomend to me to buy another kit.

the one on ebay is for a EA82 engine but in the compatibility list appears the brat, so I suppoused that it will work on my EA81 brat... is this correct?

anyways, I have to buy another set, better quality... anybody knows where I can find one?

    thanks!

  3. Thats a very clean brat!

I like how the wheels are white and match the car, I dont think Ive seen a white car with white wheels! Thats awesome!

Welcome aboard, I have found all the information I have ever needed (and made friends along the way) and have definitely enjoyed my stay here!

    Hey thanks!!!

here in Chile the brat trucks are named MV, and they are a little bit diferent than the USA brat: here all have just one headlight by side, here never came with roof windows and it never came with the rear seats, here is forbiden to drive a truck with people in the pick up bed... and the original colors are red, dark green, beige and white, all with white wheels... it was imported for working porpouse only, that's why you can find more brats in the south of the country, the weather there is very rainy and muddy (4wd is perfect), and people works with animals and wood and country stuff hahahahhaha

  4. welcome aboard, nice brat.

i've been to santiago, visited one of the Subaru dealers there, not sure how many there are in santiago but maybe we've both been to the same place? :) my wife lived there for 2 years (santiago, not the subaru dealer )

wow! and where do you live now?

subaru dealers here are famous because they have very high prices!!! That's why I bought all the parts for the engine work in the US and pay shipping to Chile.

  5. Hi, Im Roberto, from Chile. I bought some months ago a 1987 Subaru Brat (here the model is called MV, but nobody knows it by that name, just "the old little subaru pick up"

I bought it because I lived in the south of the country like 11 years and there was full of those babies, and always I wanted to get one. Here in the Capital the brats are very weird and it take me a lot of time to find a decent one. When I saw it was first sight love, it have a very nice interiors and very decent body, but the engine sounded funny.

I used it for carry some boxes and to go to the hills with my bike, and one day it sounded like an explotion and stop working.

Now Im trying to fix it and I found this incredible forum. My first post was some days ago asking some questions and I receive all the info that I needed... this is by far the best old subaru's data base.

well, I will try to be a good inmate, and thanks to the creators of this forum.

  6. Please pm me if you want them. I figure a rough value of 100 bucks. I'm open to offers that include shipping. They are still in the box as they were, and i only opened it to inspect the contents.

They were given to me by a brat enthusiast when i hepled him swap out an ea81 in a 78 wagon. They have been in the box this whole time, some six years. They are wrapped in a wax paper, and the rings are in plastic wrapping.

I post you a visitor message, I don't know how to send a PM :o

  7. Hello, I'm totally new here. I'm from Chile, south america and a proud 1987 BRAT owner since January.

well, I bought it because I love the looks, and because it remember me my childhood I think.

I bought it, and use it inmediatly for ALL!!! never check the engine or nothing, just change the tires. And one day it sounds like a can full of stones and stop working. Now is in the shop and it will be repaired.

Here is totally imposible to find spares so I bought almost everything online on ebay, but I can't find a standard size piston kit. I found a EA71 piston kit and I did some web research and it seems to be compatible, but I'm not sure, and if I buy it and it doesn't work, I can't return it because is too expensive return things from here.

Can anybody tell me if this pistons will work on my brat?

thanks, and sorry if this thread is missplaced!!!
