I checked the vacuum line and it was dry. I filled it up and drove it around in first and second. The motor runs strong. When i let off the gas there is a whizzing noise and i could see how it could be from a gear apple coring. And when I put it in third it feels like neutral.
I'm taking it so my buddies shop to have the motor resealed to fix all the little leaks. We will see whats up with the trans then. But i still want to do the 5speed d/r. i know myself and this car will end up places i shouldnt take it.
I think I will just wait till i find a good donor car.

I just pick up a sweet '87 GL-10 wagon. It was for sell in southern Utah for 2000$. The seller agreed to meet me half way to Salt Lake City. He pulled off the freeway to meet me and it would no longer go into third gear. The ATF was bone dry. The frustrated sell then dropped the price to 1000$. I knew before I wanted to pick it up I'd prefer the 5speed d/r.
But now am trying to weigh out my options.
Do the Manual swap(pedals,drive shaft, diff,etc)?
Fix existing transmission?
or find a 4at or 5 at that will bolt in?
my main function of this GL-10 is to keep my vanaru as my camping rig only and something to drive while i finish my 83 ej swap
I would like to keep it front wheel drive with the 4wd option. I love the d/r but not required on this rig for me.
also the air ride works but really really slow anyway to bump up the speed? and should i replace the struts with stock or is there a better option?

I brought home a '83 wagon last year and have been working on it in little bursts between jobs. I'm at a point where my progress is slowing down. I dont have any car friends and am looking for a bit of hands on help.
my build so far
1983 GL wagon
SJR 4" lift
14" pugs
1990 EJ22 with harness stripped down by Scott Raper
SJR adapter plate
SJR redrilled ea flywheel
XT6 clutch and pressure plate
1986 GL DR 5speed
at this point i have the tranny and motor in. starting to hook everything up.
if anyone is interested in checking it out or lend a hand please PM me.

That's what I was leaning towards. I have found a bunch but they all vary in price so much. Any suggestions where I should buy it?

I have read so many different reviews on which clutches to use my head is spinning.
I have an
'83 GL wagon
'86 GL 5speed d/r trans
'90 EJ22
4" SJR lift
27" grenral grabbers on 14" pugs
I got the adapter plate and the flywheel from SJR too.
Should I go with the XT6 clutch kit and pressure plate?
I'd like to hear opinions on this. I want to drop the motor in next week.

Alright my helpful friends, there are a few 86/87 GLs at my local scapyard. Other then the transmissions is there anything else I should grab or look for?

So I found an '87 GL for sell for $500. It runs and has a good trans. I could drop the engine and trans into my '83 and drive it till I'm ready for the EJ swap right? Good deal?

Alright so I'm a little stumped/overwhelmed on what I want to do with this car now. What car has the 5speed d/r in it? I was hoping to just check my local scrap yards.

I just bought an '83 GL wagon. I want to put in the EJ22. I wanted this wagon for it's dual range four wheel drive so i was hoping there was an adapter out there but mroseusa no longer makes them. Where can I find one? Help?
