Demon Brat

1979 Brat. While searching around the engine compartment, I found a spring hanging from the clutch cable. It has a rubber piece folder over the cable and then attached to a spring that is about 4-5 inches long. It looks like it is suppose to help align/route the clutch cable or hold it away from something. I have seen new cables sold with this spring. What is its purpose and where is it suppose to be attached? Thanks,

Sounds like it might be better to remove the Y pipe and have it welded, patched, fixed, what ever it takes.

What are people doing about the exhaust on these things? Has anyone had new exhaust fabricated from the motor back? I have a nice exhaust guy here in town that will bend his own stuff. Has anyone put dual exhaust on their brat? just starting our rebuild and I know exhaust will be in our future. Plan on mounting a skid plate on the front bumper brush guard. Thanks, 2 weeks into Brat ownership...and loving it.
