[really odd smoking problem]

The same thing used to happen to my 91 GL wagon at/tpi/4x4 EA82 only it would happen at an on ramp same place every day. A puff or cloud of blue/grey smoke would appear. I would be standing on it every day in this same spot to get up tp speed for traffic. The ramp had a slight incline to it. My 84 Brat never gives me these symptons anywhere. Are we in the Twilight Zone?

I just got an 88 GL wagon,5 spd,2WD,tbi EA82.On my way to work there is an off ramp loop which I like to accelerate up as fast as my car will handle.Well the first time I took the wagon up it I noticed when I got the car off of the loop and on the straight stretch it would put out a Spy Hunter sized cloud of smoke.This is the only time I have noticed any smoke whatsoever from the car.Any one have any ideas of what this could be?I cant believe this is normal.I took my Brat on this same loop for almost two years everyday pushing it hard and never had a whiff of smoke.I know there are alot of differences between an EA81T and an EA82 but it just doesn't seem right.I have taken the loop at normal not pushing it speeds and get a tiny little puff.Any help would make me eternally gratefull.Thanks,Dave.

[ea81 A/C installation.]

I installed factory air in my 84 Brat a few years ago, works great. I did not junk the other Brat untill I knew it was working in mine. If you never had a brat with air before, it is easy to miss something small. When I was done with mine, I realized I had missed a little vacuum devise that raises the Idle when the comp. turns on. It is located behind the carb and looks like a cylinder with a rod sticking out of it. Also, have a professional vacuum down the system and retrofit it with the new type freon. When I was done with my installation, I took it to the Subaru dealer, and they put all new"O" rings, and recharged the system for under $100.00. Good Luck, and stay KOOL.

So, I have an entire set of a/c components for an ea81, and sense my brat, is equipped for optional a/c installation. It has all the plugs, and wireing for a/c. Just not the a/c stuff it's self. So, I'm going to install it. What I would like to do however, is convert it over to the new stuff. So it's alot cheeper to have recharged. I don't want to pay 400 bucks to have it recharged with Freon and find out it's leaking later. The a/c system was working before it was pulled out of the other car, it had pressure, so sense my friend wasn't to bright, he cut the hoses... So short of the hoses, I have everything else. Anything I should be looking out for? I thought I'd run it past the board incase theres something I may miss, and don't want to miss. Thanks everyone!

Dear Brat, what was he thinking? I do not know if you have done the repair yet, but you did get some good feedback. Unfortuanetly rust and rot take our beloved Brats from us. I noticed in your pictures that your wheel wells are still in good shape. Alot of Brats start here in this vulnerable area. Do your self a favor and keep that area behind the rear shocks clean from mud, salt and road debris. There is a little pocket back there that should not be... Once clean and dry, undercoat the balls off it, on both sides. When those wheel wells blow out, there seems to be no stopping them. Also, the rocker panels hold water. Make sure the weep holes on the rockers, and door shells stay clean and work properly. You will see a little rubber flap that is supposed to let the water out. Getting back to your repair: These new body panel glues are being used by all the auto manufactures. Stop at your local autobody supply house and find out about them. You can glue and screw your patch down making it strong and watertight. Don't forget to address the bottom of the bed also..... Good Luck from aguy who hates rot rust!

Hi, I need help / advice fixing this hole on my brat. My Brat was parked facing downhill for several years(By pre-owner of course, I will never do that!). Well now there is a huge hole on the bed, and I need help fixing it. I would like to fix this hole before it gets any bigger. Here are the pictures.

Although I have owned 4-5 Brats over the past 15 years, and have maintained,

swapped motors (same kind), and fixed the bodies completely on 2 of them, I do not know much about the turbo 1.8. I recently picked up a 1989 GL wagon with the turbo MPFI 1.8 motor. Has anyone dropped a later model computer controlled turbo in their Brat or similar 2 door body style? Can someone give me the "recipe" for this swap? What I will need to do? Thanks so much for your time and patience... P.S. I'm just dying to BOOST that Brat!!
