  1. Replaced starter. Old one was staying engaged/ gear not retracting back into starter so flywheel was constantly turning the starter. Runnin like a champ again!!! Thanks all for the help
  2. Pulled out starter, took it apart and cleaned it all up. Cleaned all contacts, brushes, positive and ignition connections. Now he starts up every time. But loud high pitch grinding noise I still there. Noise changes very slightly when clutch is engaged. Car still goes into gear, drives and shifts fine. Checked the tranny fluid and it's more than full. Maybe cause it sat for a while and fluid settled? Could the noise be due to the the car having sat and the the transmission fluid settling to the bottom and not doing its job??
  3. So I had to let my '84 gl sit for just over a month. I had been starting and running fine. Now when I try to start it the starter just makes a clicking noise and will not turn over. If I try over and over it will turn over and start up after a while but when it does it makes a loud grinding noise as if I was still turning the key to engage the starter. Any thoughts or suggestions??
  4. Sounds good man! Do you think this is something you can make happen for a reasonable price? I have cash but not alot. I've already used my 2 trip permits for the year so I'll have to find a tow dolly.
  5. So I have the hitachi carb on my 84 gl wagon. Does this need an o2 sensor? Or is the o2 sensor on my catalytic conv. Just taking up space? I need to pass deq and not sure if the(not hooked up) o2 sensor is part of the problem
  6. my 84 gl wagon wont pass deq. it has an exhaust leak, easy enough. the o2 sensor, however, is in place in the catalytic converter but the wire just comes up and is tied to some wires and not plugged into anything. the plug is just hanging. does anyone know where i should start looking for the harness that the o2 sensor plugs into????
  7. So I pulled the wheel off and the hub had a good amount of play. The cotter pin was in place. I tightened the castle nut and the play went away. It drives fine now. Could this have been the only problem? Or was the play due to something wearing out on the inside? I didn't want to pull th break apart till I have more time. Is tightening the castle nut good a temporary fix?
  8. Thanks for the advice! Todays the day. Gonna get into it after work
  9. My 84 gl has started making a loud knocking noise comming from the drivers side front wheel. It's strange because the noise not only comes and goes, But when it's there it only happens at mid throttle(maintaining speed) not when I'm accelerating or slowing. Also when it happens, it's worse when I'm turning right? Any ideas on where to start??? At highway speeds it feels like a grinding.
