My '99 Legacy GT has rough idle and hesitation when started, but the problem seems to go away after the first minute or two and it doesn't happen everytime. I checked the wires at the coil and the #1 post on the coil was somewhat corroded. I cleaned it up and there seems to be enough left to get a connection. The spark plug wire was a little rough also. I'm not getting any check engine light but I think I'll change the wires anyway. I'm wondering if I should replace the ignition coil also????? Please advise.

Today is day two of intermittant no start. I cleaned both battery connections and snipped the old, rusty-looking ground cable ends to expose fresh metal, then reconnected. Also cleaned plug-in connection on starter (not sure what it is). It has started about 8-10 times since the no start earlier today. It doesn't seem to matter if it's hot or cold but I'll look for a pattern. This car has 199K on it and runs like a top. I bought it about 3 months ago so I don't know if the starter is new or rebuilt. I'll just have to wait and see if the problem arises again. Thanks for the help, ya'll.

Hi, all. I've been searching the posts but need a little more help. I have a '92 Legacy 2.2L that has recently decided not to start whenever it wants. Lights come on but engine won't crank and lights dim with the effort. Recently had new starter installed and I don't hear any clicking. 5 minutes later, starts right up, no problem. Any ideas would be very helpful. Thanks, as always.

Yes, a97OBW, I did mean left if i'm standing in front of the car. Sorry i wasn't clear. I'm getting pooling fluid of some kind on top of the passenger side engine block, which is making it's way down the engine and blowing back underneath. I get the smell of burning oil after the engine heats up and it's driven longer than 10 minutes. It does look a little wet around the top of the power steering fluid reservoir as well. Any other feedback would be appreciated, as always.

Hi all, :-\ I have oil leaking around the top of the left side of my engine ('99 EJ25) and some oil pooling on same side on top of the block. Looks like maybe the oil pump is leaking? Or could it be the valves? It's got about 89K and I want to try and hold out and do the timing belt, all the seals, water pump, HG, and clutch, etc., all at once at about 105K. Is an oil pump seal a quick, inexpensive, fix or should I just keep an eye on it for another 15K until I do everything? Thanks again.

Hi, this is my first post, and I must say, what a great web site. Usually I've found the info I need w/o posting, until now... I own a 99 Legacy GT and I'm getting slight engine surge due to the radiator fan switching on and off. This happens while the car is warming up to regular running temp. After it reaches temp the surge stops. There is an audible click when the fan starts and stops. It's more annoying than anything but I'd like to know if I should worry about it and if I can fix/stop it. Also, why would the engine fan come on when the engine is cold? The car has 75k and runs great. The thermostat never budges once I reach running temp.
