  1. I have a few bent pushrods and I'm looking for replacements. These are the non hydraulic 1.8 rods. A pretty good search has not turned up any source of new ones. Is there anywhere that new pushrods can be purchased? I can't believe that they are so hard to find. if not, is anyone willing to part with 3 or 4 and ship them to me? Also, how tight can you safely go with the valve lash on this motor? Thanks, GB '83 DL wagon '84 GL wagon parts car 14 air cooled VWs and such
  2. I have an '84 4WD GL wagon parts car with a good instrument panel and very nice dash pad. I also have an '83DL 4WD wagon with a cooked and cracked dash and very faded instrument panel. I would like to swap the Gl dash into the DL. I searched the forums and found a few older posts, but I wonder if anyone has done it recently. I know that the Japanese are (were) pretty good about using the same wiring harness for cars, with the plug ins there for options should they be installed. Besides the physical changing of the dash, what kind of problems am I looking at? Is the wiring there, or are Gls and Dls totally different as far as wiring? The harness in the donor GL is probably good, will it be necessary to change the entire harness? Anyone done this and have any tips or tricks? Thanks GB in WV
  3. It's just too rusty. Been sitting a while with the windows down, and the brakes are totally shot. Gonna pull everything I can off of it. Ea81s are super rare around these parts.
  4. Thanks for the reply. Just yesterday I picked up a parts car with a 4 speed hi lo trans in it. I think I'll be using it in the DL. GB
  5. I have an '83 DL wagon and I want to install a Hi/Lo 4WD transmission in it for the low range. What transaxles are compatible? I assume that any '80-'84 hi/lo will fit, but is this correct? Will any of the later transmissions work? Also, is there a difference in the shifter (transfer case) between the two? Thanks, GB in WV
  6. I think I have found an '83 that I'd like to buy. It is pretty far away, and my plan is to remove the front bumper, make a towbar mount that will mount to the bumper mount locations (the two on each side, in the wheelwell, where the bumper brackets bolt to the subframe sides) The car is hundreds of miles away, so I cannot measure the distance between the bolt holes on the subframe center to center, and the distance outside to outside of the subframe. If anyone out there has a car apart and could get me those measurements, I would greatly appreciate it. My plan it to bolt two pieces of angle to the bumper mounting holes in the subframe, and then weld a front piece of angle, or possibly square tubing to the forward ends of the angle. I will mount the tow bar tabs to the front piece. Like making a crude front bar bumper, in other words. Thing is, I have to make it at home and then remove the bumper and install the 'towbar bumper' in its place when I get to the car. If anyone could get the required measurements I'd really appreciate it, or, if anyone has attached a towbar directly to the front bumper bar, I'd love to see how you did it! The car is a standard, by the way, 1983 DL Many thanks, Greg
