  1. they never made any Hydraulic clutch trans SUBARU prior to 1990\91 so i dont know what car you have seen that has a EA engine and hydro clutch ?

the EA cars are a lot smaller and the peddle set from a impreza or legacys. will not fit , the 4 bolts for the booster are the same but that's it , the part that bolts up under the dash is different and the throttle cable mount is not part of the peddle set on the EJ cars .

i see no reason why it wouldn't fit on US cars, yours surely shouldn't different. they still have to be placed around all the same components that exist on a clutch cable car - and hydraulic/cable clutches were offered on the same chassis vehicles - like legacy's. which makes sense, subaru wouldn't want to retool things if they didn't have to - much simpler to make it applicable across entire swathes of product.

fitment shouldn't be an issue at all. maybe you can look at a picture of two, or find one, a quick glance should tell you a lot?

given the frequency of hydraulic clutch repairs, failed MC's, failed slaves, failed hoses, i'd consider this a downgrade. which is very telling since hydraulic stuff is typically much newer than cables which come in all the older stuff. i realize there's other considerations, just thought i'd let you know.

  2. when i did my brat i had to custom build a peddle set out of the WRX and the brat, lots of cutting and welding , i also had to move the hydro master in more so it was shorter on the shaft , redrill the pin for the leaver and relocate the throttle cable , i built a jig that simulated the firewall so i could weld the peddle set in the proper location . not an easy task and i dont know of any EJ peddle set that would bolt up with out major mods .

  3. you may think its a 4 wheel e-brake because the locked 4wd not awd , when you apply the e-brake and lock up the front it forces the rear to lock up because there is no center diff on the older cars , same goes for the VLSD center diff when you apply the rear e-brake in a EJ car you will be slowing the front wheels a little bit too , some thing to think about when you drift an EJ car so you dont under steer in to the ditch  STI's open up the DCCD center diff when you use the e brake for drifty fun

  4. all the older EA81 short shafts with the 23 spline cups i have seen use a different shaft spline so the DOJ will not fit on at least not any OEM shaft .

if you have a 80-84 short shaft for a EA81 car

with 85-90.....EA-EJ 25 spline cup on it

i would like to know what early short shaft you used ?

the splines are similar but are not exactly the same that they fit .

nothing is written in stone so maybe at some point they changed the the shaft splines in the later EA81 cars but we didnt get many here after 1984 except the hatch / Chaser .

  5. I have some adapter plates left and looking to sell off the rest before i do a new run .

they are CNC cut out of 1/2" T6061 alu. and are taped for standard bolts, can be changed , or left blank .

I will bring the remaining plates to the WCSS11 and they will be 100$ cash at the show if i have any left at that time, reserve one if needed.

    Thanks Regan

  6. fuel lines will be ok for a N/A 2.2, i have used the turbo pump but any good fuel injection pump will work as long as it holds a constant 40+ psi , if you are going to go over 200HP you will need to upgrade the fuel lines and return line , i used the stock supply line as the return and put in a new 3/8 main supply.

  7. from what i have seen all Impreza axles have the same ends as the XT6 and you need axles with the smaller inner splines to fit the non turbo low range tranny ? then you will have to take the upper boot off and joint from a 1985-86 turbo 3speed auto tranny , and put it on a xt6 shaft and outer joint or Imp.

the 85-86 turbo 3speed auto axles have the smaller tranny splines but use the bigger cup joint as a RX or XT6 , basicly you will need to find a inner cup with small splines that fits your XT6 shaft .

and no i haven't seen a axle that fits the 5lug hub and fits the smaller tranny ends . but i could be wrong  , stranger things have happened

  8. I've been watching this thread, and the site isnt that helpful, or i am not seeing what i want to see.

So excuse the dumb questions (yes i do make them on occasion)

What can this box be used on (transmissions years etc).

This box basically is a far more agressive, controlable, and basically a plug in device?

"Aftermarket standalone Automatic DCCD controller for JDM and USDM 6 speed transmissions as well as older 5 speed DCCD transmissions.

Did you swap the transmission in your car and need to control the DCCD?

Running without a controller risks breaking expensive drivetrain components.

This product is specifically designed for swapped cars, and includes everything required for automatic and manual DCCD operation, including a properly designed and handbuilt custom control module in a water resistant enclosure, with a nice adjustment knob for setting the locking force, this system is infinitely adjustable between fully locked and unlocked. "

  9. our Rally car is an '04 STi. the ABS stuff is all disabled (all hardlines replumbed, none going near the pump. but the pump and wiring is still there).

We had a wheel sensor fail at Gravity Park this year, and were unable to get it to work without the sensor (or ABS pump/computer). we tried a few different things, and the only thing that helped was a new sensor. worse part was, when it had the wheel sensor error, it would go to full-lock......not good.

We came to the conclusion that the sensors were too vulnerable, which is why a GEMs controller was "obtained" (Thank goodness GEM is one of our sponsors  ).

since that installation, our driver has said he regrets not doing it sooner, as it has drastically improved the way the car handles. most notably under hard braking, the stock controller is programmed to release the center diff while braking hard to let the ABS pump control traction. but in any performance situation, you want that center diff to tighten up.....

the DCCDpro controllers are suprising cheap, considering.....well worth the money IMHO.

thanks thats the answer i was looking ! i have also had problems with 04's centerdiff controlers not releasing in a slow speed (parking lot) turns in auto mode and causing a constant banging from the drivetrain as it overcomes the load on the diff .

im thinking ill go with the DCCDPro. if the stock comtroler is going to give me problems thanks

  10. excellent work on the 6speed swap  hoping to get to my brat 6speed 2.5L swap this fall and i have the full car wiring harness including the DCCD comp. and g-sensor from a 2004 and i have bin told i dont need the wheel speed sensors for it to work properly they dont relate in 04 ? its only for the active stability control ABS comp. only ? just wondering what your thoughts are if you looked in to just using the stock DCCD comp. ?

im prob. going to cut and weld in the tunnle out of a newer impreza or leg. to make it fit at all with out hitting .

  11. I would love to see pics of the steering rack installation and what you did to shim it in there.

i dont have any pics of building it but some time later ill try to get pics of it installed .

  12. not to bad mouth any shop but out of all the shops i know of i would only trust two that i would let touch the inside of a subaru tranny , me and a local rally shop , almost everyone i have heard of messing with them some how screw it up all it takes is a missing shim or over torquing the case and they have problems.

i would go with a good use one next time it gives you problems

  13. What kind of custom work did you have to do , to get the wrx trans mounted in.Was there any cross members that would work for the trans?

or was it all fab work? I would like to see pics if possible. I'm doing a complete wrx swap into a 85 gl 10 wagon. Thanks Robert in Portland

custom cross member , i welded the old 4speed and the EJ 5speed along with some square tubing so i could use the EJ STI tranny mount .

i dont have any pics now but ill try to get some up some time .

best thing to do is have the tranny in the car and held up with a jack and start trying to fit, cut and weld something to hold it up , dont forget exhaust pipe clearance.

  14. When getting custom axles made, how much of a factor is in balancing the shafts? Would it wear the seals and things a lot faster if the axle shaft was unbalanced?

if the shaft is built and spun on a lathe it would not need to be balanced as long as its not bent .

  15. no Ea81 had 25 splines

Ea82 and EJ22 axles are longer and will not work with EA81 control arms.

so, if you want a 25 spline trans and EA81 hubs.....there's probably a way to put 25-spline DOJ cups on the EA81 shafts.

i thought so too but i havent found that conversion shorter shaft for the front that has the same shaft splines as a EA82 or newer so i just cut them so i can get the bigger joints at each end .

  16. So basically you need RX axles...

Or any turbo axle from after 1980, right?

    Twitch

if you are going to keep the 4 lug yes 1985 and newer turbo axles would work too for a AWD EJ trans swap or change out the shafts in the tranny for the smaller ones from a non turbo EA tranny to be able to just use the stock shafts , but you will have to split the case to swap the shafts .

  17. What does it cost to make those axles? I would love to make my brat AWD! Even with 4lug!

the machine work and weld would be around 200$ an axle + core depending on the work needed or 200$ + the cost of 2 axles if you wanted to keep the 4 lug because you would need a EJ inner and EA outer ends put together .

  18. What are you going to do with the old axles? I'd be interested in buying them from you. I'm going to convert my Hatch to AWD and 5 lug wheels next summer (as you already know) so I could really use those axles. Let me know, I'm in no big hurry.

    Thanks, earl

i havent decided what the WRX engine and tranny are going in too yet but ill keep you in mind if i want to sell them .

i may sell it as a complete package for a swap in to a older EA .
