Timing belt change, '01 Forrester
I am about due for this procedure. The shop manual calls out some special tools for this, but is there a method without buying these? All input appreciated.

Front Axle removal '01 Forrester
jnaught replied to jnaught's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYour tip in removing the hub from the strut worked great, and the tranny end dropped right out but you're not going to believe this: I can't get the shaft out of the hub. I rented a hub puller to press the shaft out but to no avail. I had so much torque on it I was worried about snapping a wheel lug. Any thoughts on that one?

Front Axle removal '01 Forrester
Fellow Wrenchers: Is there a trick to removing the transverse link ball joint fron the axel housing? I removed the bolt and beat the @#%* out of the link and it will not seperate. Any more heat and I will melt the boot on the joint. Any help out there?

01 Forrester braking noise
Hi All : I am new to this board, but not new to cars. I have an '01 Forrester, and under moderate to heavy braking - only when the drivetrain is hot- I hear a ratcheting sound from the front. It sounds in nature like the front auto hubs on an old Explorer that don't fully disengage, only heavier and coming from the front (trans). Any thoughts out there ? JN

Legacy Wagon or Forester

Sudden decline in mileage
My new to me 2001 Forester L consistantly got 24-25 MPG for the first 2 months, now has dropped to 21-22. It does not run noticably rougher and does not to exhibit a power loss though it was never a rocket. What to check ?

01 Forrester new to me
My first Buru. The manual calls for timing belt service every 30K. Does this mean inspect or replace ? I can't believe a belt is only good for 30 thou, so when should it be replaced ? JN
