  1. It seems to have come on gradually, and only recently has been getting worse. It's also recent that I figured out the coasting in neutral trick. It's an 84 4-speed standard tranny, and after looking around the site a bit it sounds like the vacuum modulators are only on automatics. Another idea I might try is to replace the whole PCV system by hitting up the local junkyard. Otherwise, I'll live with it, as problems go it's definitely not a doozy. So many good ideas on this site, thanks and praise to y'all, Subee owners are the best! And if anyone figures out how to do the smoke screen on demand, I'd love to use it on the tailgaters, especially when I'm maxed out uphill on I70 at 50mph. No respect for the elderly (cars, that is).
  2. Thanks for all the advice, this is my first post and I'm impressed. Not sure about the smell, as it tends to happen when I'm coming down from the mountains and moving along at a good clip, although maybe I could flag down the guy behind me who just got smoked out, though he's usually not too friendly... Kinda sounding like valve stem seals, being that I just replaced the PCV valve and it only smokes during transition to acceleration after coasting. Are the seals something I should fix ASAP? For now, I've just been putting it in nuetral when I coast, and when I put it back into gear and step on the gas, no smoke cloud.
  3. When I coast in my 84 GL, especially going downhill, a major smoke cloud comes spewing out of my exhaust when I step on the gas. This even happens after coasting for a few seconds, and has only started recently. My little brown beauty has 229K and I'd love to keep her running strong and clean.
