  1. Very good you guys...I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now. So I'm in the process of deciding on which used engine folks have the best price on there 1800. The only Leed I have now is from a place in Arizona (a 86 Gl with 13000 miles for $820 w/shipping).And 1800's were paired w/5 speed tyranny evidently so need to get that too.
  2. Ok.So there's a relatively low mileage 1800 engine from a 1986 brat GL for sale. Will that be an easy swap for my present 1600 in my 1980 brat GL?
  3. It's a 80 with a EA71 (1600). I want to put another lower mileage engine in with the least amount of work. If an EA82 or EA82T isn't that easy than how about an EA81 (1800) or EA81T?
  4. Will the EA82 and EA82TURBO work in any brat without major modifications?
  5. Which brats, if any, won't the EA81 or the EA81Turbo fit in. Any bell housing or wire harness or motor mount or exhaust manifold or distributor changes necessary? Was there any thing wrong with the EA81 since subaru only offered it from 83 to 84?
  6. Gentlemen, Thanks for the input. Definitely the engine swapping is beyond my skill set though I have managed to keep my 80 brat going for 36 years traversing a pretty knarly farm road. I'll leave it to an expert when the time comes Did you have some experts in mind? Dania02525 may have an 82 with a weber carb that may be worth looking at in Shawn's shop in Colorado if it's still available.
  7. Looking to replace my 80 brat with one in better shape. May want to have a rebuilt 1.8 put in this upgrade...maybe even a more powerful boxer from another Suby model (what would fit in an 78 to 87 brat chassis and who specializes in this sort of rebuild/upgrade?
