  1. I took it to a subaru dealer and they said the rear differential is fine but that the real transfer clutch and solenoid are bad. But I think I'lll get a second opinion. Does this sound reasonable for a 98 with 125,000*KM*? Doug (original poster)
  2. I've got a 98 Legacy that makes noise and feels a bit bumpy when I turn corners. The noise comes from the rear. It seems like it's coming from the rear driver's side, but that could be because I'm hearing it from the driver's side. The guy at my local garage (who I trust, but who is not a Subaru expert) says it's a bad rear differential. He also said that I should have it replaced at the dealer because it's not an easy repair. Does this seem reasonable? Are there any easy ways to verify a that a rear diff is indeed bad? Thanks, Doug
