Thanks for the response. I changed the fluid, but have not replaced the filter. The good thing is I did buy the extended warranty, and it is still covered so I just want to get the problem fixed before the extended waranty expires.

Hello! I own a 1999 Subaru Outback that has developed what appears to be a transmission slip problem. When I am driving along, and have a need to accelerate (often while going up a grade/hill) the engine revs up, and slams into gear. And I mean slams. It often causes a jerk in the steering wheel, and today the tires broke traction (i.e. chirpped) when I was going up a hill, and had to accelerate. I have taken it to a dealer and they could not get it to happen and I also took it to a local mechanic who could not repeat the "slip". It does seem to be more prevelent when cold. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.
