  1. This is a crossroads moment for me and this Legacy. I love the car, but its getting cold out and the climate controls stopped working, no fan, no nothing. Its like an old vw with forced air heat. I've read in the forums it might be a soldered connection in a resistor? or the controls itself? I'm pretty sure its the controls that failed as a few months ago the vent button started to be unreliable. My questions are - •Is this something I can fix myself. Or do I have to have so solid electrical experience? •If I take it somewhere what can I expect to pay? (fix / replace components) •And lastly - anyone know a good independent service place for subarus in Northern New Jersey (Bergen)...its been serviced mostly by the dealer it was bought from (Liberty), and I can't justify spending that money anymore The car was made in September 1989, and it has 141k + Any advice help would be appreciated. Even if this one is retired, we still have an Outback in the family. And a friend and I just test drove a 2005 Legacy I. THe smog rating seemed to be outstanding! thanks.
