Totaled, now what?
KRB64 replied to KRB64's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThanks guys for the feedback, that's about what I was thinking. It's drivable but not road worthy. Rooster, it's the same car in my sig but with about 296K miles now. Was hoping to see the 300K mark... Tires are brand new but think I'll give them to the mother-in-law. jmoss, that offer include you pulling the motor?

Totaled, now what?
My daughter's Legacy got t-boned the other day. She is fine, albeit a little frazzled. It was a slow speed hit. A full size pickup hit her right in the B pillar and pushed it in about a foot. No airbag deployment or broken glass. My question is, is there much demand for parts for a vehicle of this age? Interior parts are good and the motor, although it has high miles burns no oil and runs like a top. Transmission has torquebind. No idea of the condition of the rear ends. Am I better off just selling it for scrap? What's the value of a high mileage engine like this one? Thanks,

Driving with torquebind in the snow, anybody done it?
KRB64 replied to KRB64's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXJust a stocky Legacy sedan with 290,XXX miles, new Michelin tires and torque bind. We got another 15" last night but not had it out in it yet, no purpose really since the river is over the road now I can't go anywhere anyway...

subaru with over 300 miles... worth it?
KRB64 replied to Wallis_93's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI bought a '97 Legacy sedan from a friend for $650 with 289K about 2 years ago. She got it from a friend who bought it new so we know the history and all the maintenance. It had torque bind when I got it and still does. It was my daughter's first car for a year and a half then I inherited it (after her driving record was impeccable so she got a newer nicer ride). I use it as a backup so its only got a couple thousand miles more now but this past week been driving it everyday since we got 12" of snow. I had to do a little maintenance (plugs, wires, igniter, knock sensor) but this thing starts every time (-15*F yesterday) and burns no oil. It has a rattle coming from the TC and the 3 flush didn't fix the bind but for $650 what can I expect? Like everyone is saying, for $800 its hard to go wrong for what you plan to use it for.

KRB64 replied to KRB64's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXMan this thing is like a tank! We got about 12" of snow last Sunday, then wind, then -15*F. This car has started everyday and went everywhere. After the winds I had drifts up to my knees in our rutted drive and the gravel lane to the barn and it busted right through them. I drove this thing out to feed and check the cattle, my 1992 Dodge diesel 4X4 and 1976 Dodge full time 4X4 farm truck never had to leave the barn. Now we're getting 3-7 more inches of snow/sleet/freezing rain, we'll see what happens...

Will this tranny work?
KRB64 replied to KRB64's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXNo FWD light with fuse in. AT Temp light flashes. Did the 3 time drain and fill thing right off the bat. Anybody have a picture or diagram of the wire running to the tranny? All I see under there is a loom going on past to the rear. But it is pretty tight and there's a bunch of greasy gunk on the trans too. Happy New Year

KRB64 replied to KRB64's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXOK, I'll check that wire then, is that the one coming out of the tailshaft on the driver's side? I assume the C-duty is in the tailshaft as well? Thanks,

KRB64 replied to KRB64's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYea, did the drain and fill 3 times. FWD light used to come on with the fuse but not any more. That's why I figure I'll need to R&R the Trans but didn't realize it would be easier to do just the tailshaft. Wish it was just a wire, not checked that yet, which wire was it?

Will this tranny work?
I'm still dealing with my torquebind. Found a "good" auto tranny with 90 K that's supposed to fit an Impreza or Outback. How can I tell if it will fit my Legacy? The number on it is TZ102A5AA-GN and 215772. Is there a reference somewhere I can look it up? Thanks,

KRB64 replied to KRB64's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI guess we'll find out unless I sell it in the mean time. I'll go easy with the gas as usual. I usually don't down shift while going down a hill, but I do have a big hill before home that I downshift at the top of. It's fun to go up as the bottom has a 90* curve so you have to slow to about 10mph before hitting a long steep grade with a nice bend in the middle. The 90* also makes coming down fun too! I generally don't freak out in the snow. At home I have a 1951 Power Wagon with 10K PTO winch & 9.00x16 Power Kings (chains available) which is back up to a 1976 full time 4x4 M880 (Dodge W200) with 7.50x16 Grip Spurs, in waiting is a 1992 W250 Cummins with a bunch of weight in the bed should one fail me. What scares me is the other drivers, especially those with 4WD SUVs and the newer the vehicle or younger the driver the scarier they are.
