  1. The vibration was not present brefore the new tires, and is something that just occurred. I bought this car for my daughter about 6 months ago and she has put on about 6000 miles. The click I hear when putting it into reverse I did hear intermintently when I was test driving and it was usually from a dead stop but I could not get it to recreat with dealer, or maybe he just knew it and did not want to say anything. The oil leak may have been present then but the engine was cleaned, I should have known better, but I was buying a subaru for it reliabiliy. As far as the timing bely, I do have that (did not mention) that was the job I was about to do when all this cropped up - and I have a new water pump also. So do you think it could be the cv jiont - are there any other tests I can do to determine. Could it be a wheel bearing? Any tests for that, or do I just pull it all apart. Thanks for all your help.
  2. Hi All, New here but just starting having trouble with my 2007 Legacy Limited 2.5. Has a vibration in the steering wheel at 35 to about 65 miles, it is very noticeable. I first thought it might be a rotor, I had one wheel with a lot of brake dust, so I put in two new calipers, rotors and pads in the front. Although it has not fixed the issue. Is there a way to test for the cv jionts, because in searching the forum it appears it may be these. I have lift the front wheels (bot at same time) up and have tried to move the wheel in and out - hands at 12 and 6 and 3 and 9 pushing in and out, but there is no movement. The wheels do spin but they do have some play before they do spin. I have also noticed a click when I put it into reverse - and it is an automatic - sorry for not mentioing that earlier and it has 110K on it. I also dealing with an oil leak which appears to be coming from the drivers side head gasket, just oil no antifreeze as of yet. Oh and it got a new (3000 miles) set of tires which I rotated after the brake work just incase of a out of balance situation. And lastly, I think it is the drive belt is in need of a change - it squeels and steering is difficult at idle, give it some gas and it ismuch better. So have some work ahead but I want to get it all the parts ordered at once so if you think I should go forward with the cv's then I will order them with the rest of the parts. Any help would be great. Dave 07 Legacy 02 Forrester
  3. Hi All, Tried searching the posts and got some ideas but I keep getting the same CEL - 1490. Was told this is a Subaru Tech code, not listed in my haynes manual. Some of the fixes are - change thermostat (done), change engine temp switch (done - had to use OEM, aftermarket did not work). So here is what has happen, bought car fro local used car dealer. Inspected and passed with no codes. Within 100 miles 1490 pops. After research, I have dealer replace thermo. Then within another 100 mile the 1490 pops again - fans were acting suspect and temp was rather high. Dealer changes temp switch. Code pops within another 100 miles and temp still high. Dealer says he used after market temp switch - replaces with OEM and also replaces battery. Car goes over 300 miles and 1490 pops. This is where I am at now. Car has 81K on it, new t-belt and water pump was put in when I bought it. Temp is perfect, fans working appropriately, car does start a bit dragging in cold (below 25 degrees). I have noticed throughout all of this the smell of antifreeze burning off - just thought with work it was burning off engine - no antifreeze is noted on ground and does not appear to be losing it. Any thoughts on what else I may need to change? read somewhere to change the antiknock sensor but I though that had its own code. Any help will help. Put 25 miles on car since clearing the code and it has not popped yet. Will up date once it does again. Thanks for any help
