I have a 84 dl with a ae71 engine in it and I was wondering what newer engines would work in it I heard a 96 engine would go in

i need a tranny for an 84 subaru DL hatch 1.6L 4speed engine type ae 71

yes i do just need guidence and help from the wise im trying to get a rally look and feel out of it

and im talking 3door hatchbacks too but if it the same for all models then okay

whats the difference between the two because when i bought my car he said it was a GL and then i was at a part shop and they ran my vin and it came up DL but it says its a 85 but most 85 stuff isnt the right stuff but 84 stuff is ?
