  1. I have a 96 subaru legacy with 110,000 miles on it. I just noticed that my automatic trans shifter moves in to nuetral from the drive position without having to depress the shifter button. My daughter accidently hit it while we were driving and it moved into nuetral. All the other positions you must depress the button to shift into. Does this mean my trans is slipping? Or is the trans ready to go? I am not a mechanic or very inclined that way so I am just trying to get some knowledgeable feedback. Any help would be appreciated thanks...
  2. I just had my front and rear rotors and brake pads replaced on my 96 legacy at an independent shop I trust. The mechanic told me I would here some noise while these parts wear in (or something to that effect) the problem is every time I make a right turn I hear noise coming from the back of the car. I took the car right back and they thought it was a plate? (I forgot what they said) after checking they said that wasn't the problem they heard the noise and said it should go away after about 150 miles after proper wear. Does this sound feasible? I am not a gear head and I know very little about cars any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated . Thanks....
  3. Can anynoe recommend good CHEAP tires that I can put on my 2003 imprezza? The manager from Just Tires kept pushing me towards the more expensive tires, and when I inquired about some of their cheaper tires he told me they were no good. I finally left just a little annoyed by his hard sell methods. My tires are size P195/60R15 87h Bridgestone Potenza's RE 92. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, also sometimes I go up to the Upper Penninsula of Michigan and drive the gravel and dirt/sand roads , but nothing that a regular car couldn't handle. Thanks....
  4. Northguy, it's a 96 AWD auto trans legacy 2.2 engine.
  5. I noticed a noise when I depress the brake pedal in park. It's one audible click and if I put my hand on the shifter console at the same time I can feel one vibration (slight) that corresponds exactly to my braking in park. This only happens in park though. I believe in the past I could hear a very slight click but it's louder now. Is this anything to be concerned about? What could it be? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks....
  6. I have a really strange problem with my 96 2.2 legacy wagon , it occasionly doesn't start. The engine doesn't turn over at all. I checked the battery and the alternator they checked out ok.The car is running fine now, and i have no idea of what to think. It scared the hell out of me though, i was in a remote spot of the Upper Penninsula of Michigan and it wouldn't start for about 45 minutes. I waited gave it one more try and it turned over. I drove home everything was fine and the next morning the car did the same thing. It started and now it has been 3 days without a problem. I actually read a post on another board of a woman who also had a 96 with the same problem she was told it was one of two things the starter or maybe the shifter cable needing adjustment. Any thoughts or ideas to help me solve this problem would be appreciated . Thanks...
