Blower is not dead?
pstanstill replied to familyguy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXafter reading the post from gbhrps I thought a stuck blend door might explain both . Maybe I dont understand how the door works. Also hoping family guy might give some tips on opening up the dash.

Blower is not dead?
pstanstill replied to familyguy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI have a similar problem in a 97 legacy L. Blower works but no heat, moving temperature lever seems to do nothing. Is that lever a mechanical cable or an electric motor? Does the whole dash have to come off to access the blend door?

1999 Forester - been driving around with diagnostic connectors connected.
pstanstill replied to danielzink's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI recently bought a 97 legacy L, 2.2, auto , 270K. Runs well but had a noticeable quirk ; if you turned the key on but didn't start it the fans would cycle on and off, on and off. Somewhere on this forum I read that that was a symptom of the diagnostics being connected. They were ( though mine were green, not black.) when disconnected, the fans stopped cycling and I haven't noticed any other ill affects

driveshaft removal
pstanstill replied to pstanstill's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXthe fuse was in the holder when I got it, apparently having no effect, ( no fwd light on dash.) I did the atf change and added some trans ex for good measure but no effect on binding. Changed rear diff oil whileunder the car. Thanks, fairtax for the tip on taking the whole thing out. I may eventually do the duty C if I can find a good how-to video on youtube.

driveshaft removal
I bought a 97 legacy L, 2.2, auto, 270k. Motor runs , trans has torque bind. Tcu codes show duty c solenoid. I wanted to drive it to see if it was worth fixing the solenoid so I disconnected the rear driveshaft. Torque bind went away but the u-joint is clunking against the differential flange. Is there another connection to the differential behind that bracket it sits in? Do I need to remove the u-joint and if so could you tell me how? I'm a carpenter, not a mechanic. If not for the info on this forum I would never have gotten this far

transmission compatibility
I recently paid 300 for a 97 legacy L, 2.2, auto. Runs good but trans has torque bind. trans light flashes 24 - duty C selinoid. With 270 k miles not sure if its worth fixing. Found a 96 outback with no motor but supposedly good trans. Trans numbers are different. 97 = tz102zacaa 96 = tz102z2aba. any chance of swapping or should I fix the 97? just read sir loin's post of june 3rd. I think that answers my question. Now, how about a link to a tranny swap how-to post?
