  1. Well, I put it back together, dropped it back in and fired it up. Still made the clunking clank sound, go figure.:-\ So I drained and lifted and removed the oil pan. Found lots of metal shavings and other "things". So I played with the piston rod ends and low and behold #1 was so loose, "How loose was it?” it was so loose it'd have made the perfect Prom date! #4 had some extra play also but not nearly as much. BUT OF COARSE #1 is located right above the cooling jacket pass through, next to impossible to get to! So is this the end of the road?..........
  2. I thought of that, the transmission mount looks good and the Torque Converter-To-Drive Plate Bolts are tight at 20 ft. lbs. It was slow in shifting during the 8 mile run, but I contributed that to the computer reprogramming. Would a thrown piston bearing give me the problem I've stated? or would that show up with the compresion check??
  3. All other engine parameters are good. It was running great for that first 8 miles then BLAMO! I think i've covered the easy stuff?
  4. Oh boy do I need HELP. Quick run down: '96 OTBCK, water pump went out, over heated, vented compression into cooling jacket, pulled engine, had heads reworked, felpro gaskets, reinstalled, hyd. lifters clicking but no other problems. Took for a test drive, made it about 8 miles, at around 60 mph, vehicle down shifted, RPMs up to 4000, loud clacking noise for engine, lost acceleration, backed off throttle engine died. Would turn over, but not stay running with loud clacking noise. :-\ Timing still good, compression is 190 t0 230 psi, cylinders clear, valves functioning well. Any suggestions?
