  1. Thanks for the help. I tightened the clamps today and they had a surprising amount of give in them. I also smelled gas when I put my nose right up to the lines. Hopefully that takes care of it, but I guess I'll find out next time it gets cold... we seem to be in an abnormal warm spell for the time being...
  2. Thanks for the input. Really seems like it isn't worth the trouble, so it looks like it'll be another 5 speed when the time comes. On a side note, what year/model transmissions fit the 2002? Hollander says it has to be from a GD body style but I've heard otherwise.
  3. So I've seen threads all over the place about swapping a 6-speed manual from an STi into a WRX, but can't find anything about the nonturbo models. I've got an 02 Impreza 5 speed that's starting to have a little bit of whine from the differential. Nothing serious right now but it's going to need attention at some point. I'm thinking... if I'm going to have the tranny out anyway, why not swap in a 6-speed for a little better mileage and quieter cruise on the highway? I can pick up a 6-speed from a 2012 Impreza 2.0 for pretty cheap, and if that wouldn't fit there's always the 6-speed from the 2010+ Outback/Legacy. Anyone ever try swapping one of these in? I understand the 2012+ Impreza uses a cable shifter linkage, so I guess I'd have to mess around with that too. Thoughts?
  4. Apologies if this was already asked, I didn't find it using the search function. So I've got this 02 Impreza 2.5 nonturbo, and it's been in the frigid north for about a month after living in Florida for the past 13 years. I noticed when it's cold outside I'm smelling fuel. Above 35 degrees or so and the smell goes away. The car hasn't seen temperatures like that since about 2005 so who knows if it's a new problem. Engine cold or warm, it makes no difference. I'm not seeing any leakage or anything. Any thoughts on where to begin?
  5. Well, it's certainly been a long time. I think it's been about ten? years since I've been here? I used to hang out here way back when, I think I might have originally joined in 2002, back when we used to get together in the Pine Barrens and hang out at moosens' storage unit in Connecticut. Lots of fond memories and I kinda missed this place. Anyway, I'm back! I just recently brought an 02 Impreza from Florida to the frigid north and thought it was time I came back to the USMB. Probably going to be talking/learning a lot about that one, but I'll have a lot to say about the Subarus of the 80s for sure. Cheers!
