If the shaft in question were to long and the inner joint was "bottomed out" in it's housing, than he could experence this vib/rough feeling.

My 05 lgt has a finned cover(with lsd) and so did our 03 leg sedan(no lsd), but they have a different housing style and the cover bolt patteren has changed. Ive noticed the outbacks still have the older housing style. Hope this helps.
