  1. I try to remember to spray WD40 into the insides of the door locks, BEFORE the winter weather hits.

This usually prevents the door-lock tumblers from freezing up (not so much of a problem these days with remote fobs).

Perhaps WD-40 would also act as a preventative on the gas-door latch?

Maybe, but it is a cable release by the driver's seat that unlocks a little tab on the gas tank snorkle.  Ice hardly visits that far inside the door.It seems to gather in the crack between the door and the car body, a rectangle with rounded ends.  I am thinking a wood paint stirring paddle so I won't hurt the paint when prying.  Thanks for your timely reply.  I'm a new Subie owner and this forum has been a great resource for me.

  2. I always try to get the owner to let me take the car to my mechanic before I buy (or offer).  Or perhaps meet the owner at your mechanic's shop.  If they find something or can advise you on the cost of that wheel bearing repair, negotiate a lower price on the car.  Or walk away and look on.

Ditto on the other remarks on the woman and her newer car.  You might want to walk on that one too.

  3. Hey everyone, I just purchased a 2103 Outback with 78k about a month ago in a neighboring town from a Honda dealer in TN.

I am not quite used to the CVT and how it behaves.  On cold (30 F) mornings, it seems slow to change from first to second for about 2 miles.  Sometimes it seems like it is struggling and is often jerky.  Is this behavior normal?

Mechanic says the tranny fluid level is fine through the sight glass underneath, and the fluid does not appear to be discolorated or overheated.

Since I have a 90-day warranty on the drivetrain from the dealer, I'm wondering if this cold start behavior is normal, and if not, what is the probable cause and cure?

    Bill
