  1. HMMM

I THINK (THEREFORE I AM  ) THAT THE CRANK PULLEY IS THE SAME IF ITS A LATE 89 PART# 12305AA121

AND CAM POS SENSOR ARE THE SAME PART # 22056AA002

    HOPE THAT HELPS

    ANDY:burnout:

Does anyone have access to part numbers? I need to know if the # is the same for a crankshaft pulley on an 89 and a 91 Legacy. They may not be. The bolt too. Also, would like to know if an 89 cam shaft position sensor will fit a 91 car. Many thanks.
  2. WELL HERE'S MY TWO CENTS WORTH...UNFORTUNATELY THEY ARE AUSTRALIAN CENTS WHICH ARE WORTH VERY LITTLE...BUT HERE GOES ANYWAY..... COULD BE :1 REAR MAIN SEAL

2 SEPARATER COVER AS MENTIONED BY YOURSELF

3 REAR CAM BLANK COVER O RING

OR 4 IF THE BLOCK HAS BEEN SPLIT IT MAY HAVE NOT BEEN REASSEMBLED CORRECTLY

THATS OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD

    HOPE THIS HELPS

Okay, now I'm somewhat educated about the plastic vs metal oil separator cover leaks. My wife and I have a '95 Legacy LS Wagon with the 2.2L engine. We've had "a" leak since we bought the car (with 141K). Everything pointed to the oil pan "gasket" ...which it turns out wasn't there... so we had an aftermarket FELPRO cork gasket installed.

But, alas, the leak is still there. I've had a mirror up behind the oil pan and it would appear that the leak is coming from above where the oil pan meets the engine. Does this actually indicate the separator plate is the culprit? Or is it something else? Also, how long can I drive it like this monitoring the leak and adding oil when it gets low?

Thanks to all who might give us their 2 cents (US or Cdn) worth! ;)

  3. BEEN USING THOSE HERE ...BUT AM STILL EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS...THEY DO WORK WELL BUT IM DAMNED IF IT'LL DO MY SOOB..

In a nutshell, it's a tall-sided funnel that attaches securely to the filler neck of your radiator via it's own "radiator cap" at it's bottom.

It allows you to have extra coolant in the funnel while you heat the motor, blip the throttle and burp the top hose.

When you've had enough, you close off the bottom of the funnel by inserting the long plug (from the top), remove the funnel from the filler opening and dump the remaining coolant back into the jug.

It's almost a work of art.

  4. have the same problem with my 2.2 have had no joy with incline bleeding... still looking for an answer...am thinking about fitting a tee piece in the "higher" heater hose ... i dunno yet but am desparate for a "good" fix that will give me a good result every time i change coolant...

That's probably 90 KPa, or roughly 0.9 Bar. You might want to a new one, as the seals and spring do weaken with time. Do the coolant hoses go hard once the engine is warmed up? They should.

Slight incline bleeding is the way to go.

  5. IF ITS A 2.2 LITRE IT IS A NON INTERFERENCE ENGINE...

CRANK AND CAM SEALS SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE LAST TIME TIMING BELT WAS DONE (EVERY 100000) OIL IS PROBABLY COMING FROM CAM OR CRANK SEAL....NOT TOO HARD TO DO

Ok, here's the deal. I always heard Subarus run for ever, and my daughters car just died, so I bought a 1992 legacy wagon with 235000 miles on it. It runs like a swiss watch and is in all around good to great shape. The only thing I can find wrong with it is oil appearing to be leaking from the timing belt covers. So my questions are in no special order! What is a good book for a service manual? Are seals a big deal to change or do I have a different problem? If a timing belt breaks am I going to take out the valves or worse? Or is there enough valve clearance with the pistons?
  6. YOUR PART NUMBER FOR THERMOSTAT IS 21200AA072 $27.50 RETAIL GSKT PART NUMBER IS 21236AA010 $4.40 RETAIL PLUS FREIGHT (AIRBAG ???)I HAVE TWO IN STOCK IF INTERESTED

Well I didnt get a chance to get under my car last night and test it.

I have confirmed that its not my head gasket or anything, checked my oil/coolant, no mixing has occured :D

Will get my car up on a car ramp this arvo and take the thermostat out. I wont be able to get a replacement for a week...as I live in a very remote part of Western Australia, and the Subaru dealer here is ************ty. Must ring them soon for a quote.

Thanks for the advice, ill let ya all know

  8. SOUNDS THERMOSTAT(ISH) IF WATER WAS COLD AT RAD

IM IN NSW IF YOU EVER NEED PARTS AND MY LIBERTY HAS 354000KLM ON IT WITH JUST TWO NEW HEAD GSKTS AT 250000KLM ----GOOD CAR LOVE THE 2.2ENGINE

Just a lil bit of background.

Car is a manual 2.2L '91 Liberty (Aussie Legacy) got 253,000km on the clock.

I replaced the Radiator a few weeks back, due to the old one having a crack down the drivers side (common problem in these cars).

But today on the way to work, I noticed my car was over heating. Pulled over, and saw the the Overflow tank was Full. The top radiator hose was boiling to touch, and the radiator wasnt too hot to touch. Opened the radiator cap with a Towel, and noticed that hardly any pressure or hot coolant came out. Put my finger in the coolant in the radiator, and it wasnt too hot either. Have just checked engine after it has been off for a hour, and have noticed that engine is still quite hot, and the overflow tank is now empty.

When I get home tonight, I will try "burping" the car, just to remove any air that may be caught. Also going to look at removing the thermostat to see if this will fix the issue (where I live...it never gets cold...so getting the engine warm isnt problem :P).

Just wondering what else could be causing this problem?? Any other things to check?? I thought maybe the head gasket, but there is no oil or residue in my radiator/overflow tank that I can see.

Any help/advice/hints/tips would be greatly appreciated :D

    Cheers,

    Damo

  9. update........ all waterpump part numbers go to 007 from 004 005 006 so your pump should be okgive me your vin number and ill see if i can find out

The tensioner was removed from the engine when I did this. I reinstalled it after getting the belt on.

The only other thing I can think of is the water pump. I installed a new water pump, part number 21111AA007. Two or three of the parts I received from this particular dealership were for a 2.5L, even though they had my VIN and "checked" the parts against the VIN to make sure they were correct. Perhaps the water pump is the wrong one, but I have no way of looking up the part number.
