  3. While stationed in England, I was in my '82 GL Wagon, late for bowling. I was on a 2-lane that changed into a 4-lane. It was dark, and I saw the the new lane coming up. Remember in the UK, you drive on the left. I was following someone who obviously didn't know I was late for bowling. Anyhow, I eagerly anticipated the extra lane, so I could pass, and then I saw the lane coming into view! I signaled and started easing over to the right into the new lane - but oh sh*t, it wasnt the extra lane. It was a turning lane for a crossroad!!! I swerved to the left going about 65 and smacked the curb with the right front wheel. Took out about 5 road signs, one hitting the top of the car, right above the windshield... I ended up on the left side of the road, as though I had just pulled over... my hands white-knuckeded to the steering wheel. Not knowing that the impact with the curb had driven the driveshaft into the tranny, I started it up and tried to put it in gear. Well, it fired up, but didnt go any where. To finally end this story.... I had to leave that car in a junkyard and come back to the states without it.... and never did have to pay for the signs.
