  1. Reminder: Spokane ASNW's first 2006-7 winter snowcross is ON for this weekend, both SAT & SUN, Dec. 9 & 10. 2006. Locals report ~3" of snow over durable ice on the ground this morning with more snow forecasted Sat nite & Sun. Main highways are well maintained. Charlie & I had a ball last year in his red automatic. Try the ASNW forum or Erik (roundthebend) on nasioc or Wes at ASNW for more info (I'll be offline) ..... ..... .... Bill

    Event Description/

Schedule Print a copy of your registration so you won't have to fill out a new form with a frozen pen

    COST

Cost will be $5 more than normal. (since we pay rent for this venue differently)

    $20 for members and $30 for non-members.

    FORMAT

Entry will be limited to 30-40 drivers per day due to the rapid deterioration of the snow with 120+ runs going on. I will try to set up the course to allow for the most fresh snow on both days. Hopefully this will help battle the deterioration issue. It would be nice if it just snowed and froze all winter.

Run times will be calculated by dropping worst run and adding the other three together for a total time.

    CLASSING

Here is the final decision on classing for RallyX 2006.

There will be 3 general classes, based on where you think your RallyX skill is using the following guidelines.

Novice - Brand new to the sport, 1st season only

Amateur - Not your first season of RallyX, no additional training

Professional - Rally school, Have professionaly rallyed as a driver

Each class will then be split into 2wd or 4wd

So the classes are as follows...

    Novice - N2 & N4

    Amateur - A2 & A4

    Professional - P2 & P4

    TIMES

    0800 Gate opens

    0800 Tech and Registration open

0830 GATE CLOSED (if you miss the window you dont get in!!)

    0920 Tech and Registration CLOSED

    0910 Drivers meeting

    0930 First car out!!!!

We will not be running the dirt track this year since it needs too much $$$ and time to build and maintain.

All events will be run on the "snow covered" runways this season.

If it happens not to snow for a planned event we will bump that event to the next weekend.

The decision to cancel will be posted to the RallyX post for that event by the WED prior to the event.

  2. ...Thunderhill....less than pleasant....pressuring her to water at every moment....

Yeah, I was just talkin' to a former RX'r who was driven out of the sport by the waterheads and their dust paranoia. Thunderhill had an unbelievable amount of dust - had to wear a bandanna mask for a few seconds each lap at my worker staion - and no complaints from CalTrans or from the adjacent m/c road racers. If all that dust was acceptable to the National RX Director, what gives with ..... ?

Biggest issue was the record 117F temp. on Sunday (only 114 on Sat) - made the air hanging over I-5 about 130F for the drive home - with no A/C!!

    Congrats on the overdue win,

    Bill

  3. i am sorry...but i still cannot find info .:)

    Here's Ananda's post on NASIOC:

June 24th, near the famous Brooklyn Tavern, the Pacific Rally Group will be hosting the first Rallycross for 2006! (FYI, the Rallycross was scheduled for the ORV Park in Grays County, but due to a conflict of dates, the event was moved to Brooklynn. Same date, different place.)

    SCCA-NWR members $25

    Non-members $30

    Junior Rally Group members $15

Spectators $10 per car load (this fee is charged by the Park, not PRG)

For more information contact Kim Craddock at nwrallymom@yahoo.com or at hm: 360-273-7310 or cl: 360-508-9072.

    A couple notes:

You can qualify for the membership price level if you want to join the Pacific Rally Group for $20. PRG is the Rally organiztion in the northwest that is putting on all the stage rallyes and rallycrosses. It is an annual membership that provides secondary insurance at all motorsport events, a region newsletter, and discount entrance fees. PRG will be hosting more rallycrosses this year and will likely be promoting a 6 event championship series. So the membership will definitely pay for itself.

The Junior Rally Group is a new program for NWR SCCA promoting those interested in motorsports and safe driving. You have to be in the age range of 15-20, and when you turn 21 you could get a SCCA competition license, which allows you to race in SCCA events. Joining JRG will cost $10 for an annual membership and you will get a T-shirt and reduced entry fees to rallycrosses and maybe autocrosses (this is being discussed at the autocross meetings).

The Rallycross will be held at the City of Brooklyn. Driving directions are:

The quickest route to Brooklyn from Puget Sound is to take exit 104 from I-5, stay on the 4-lane freeway to McCleary, take the Mox-Chehalis road to Malone at Highway 12, go Left to Porter on Hwy 12, Right at Porter over RXR tracks and bridge, Left at next intersection toward Oakville, follow several miles then turn Right toward Brooklyn on the Garrard Cr. Rd, follow this keeping to the Right two times where needed, then 7 miles of Gravel (the Brooklyn Stage), then follow to the Tavern. The farm will be about 1/4 mi before the Tav.

From NB I-5 from Chehalis and points South, take the Hwy 12 Westbound exit toward Aberdeen (I think it's Exit 88B), follow to Oakville, turn Left at State St, follow out of town a ways, then Turn Left at the Garrard Creek Rd toward Brooklyn just after a long bridge. Then follow the directions in the above paragraph.

  4.

I went up to Hoodriver Sunday with my son for short hike . We cruised up Post canyon rd and then I hooked on Binns hill rd up high and wound up just below Mt.Defiance and blew thru some snow drifts wahoo! Dug out and pulled a minivan stuck in the snow buried to the frame! Subie pull no#4! the snow is still around 3500-4,000ft and deep drifts! Olallie is just out of the question for now given it's 5,000ft maybe in a few weeks!

thanx for the report - fascinating that there is still snow around. i'll put mt d on the explore list and see if i can break loose for a weekday trip soon. nice pr work with the tow. ....bill

  5. let's see, 6hrs + 4hrs equals.........10!

and you never raised your voice to anyone - you're a saint, ed. icon12.gif

Actually, with the traffic jam for the windstorm, it took me 6 hours just to get to Portland. Return trip in four more!
so ed, how does driving 7 hrs RT for NO fun compare? .......bp

hey, ed - what's the protocol - can we keep chating right here or do we move to another place on the board?

    thanks,

    bp

  6. hi, ed - the trip was easy for me to rationalize since i needed to visit friends & family there. same with erik. plus, i needed to chill, as you know. - the trip was good for my (normally low) blood pressure. btw - the series of spokane falls thru downtown is still spectacular, as are dry falls and the ginko petrified forest on the way back to ellensburg. erik was overdriving or would have whooped me, and wes, the organizer drove my car better than i did! my car saw 14 laps! you would have loved it, ed. i'm thinking about their december event which should be snow over tarmac - with studs allowed!:)

check www.autosportsnorthwest.org for possible date change. ........bp

So Bill, how did you do?

Actually, I'd be up for it, but I really can't justify 10 hours of round trip driving for the fun of it. ---ed---

  7. hi back - i hear rallycross in UK is quite a bit faster - the RS200 would be fun to watch here, but it would need those euro-only knobby tires to get any traction on our clay-based grass/dirt courses here in oregon. .......bp

Hi bill, I'm a new forester owner from across the pond, pleased to make your aquantance.

Rallycross - good stuff that, I've spectated at quite a few events over here where mostly Metro 6R4, RS200 and certain others have been the vehicles of the day.

  8. finally saying hello to old & new friends after a year of lurking - been reluctant to chime in since i rallycross an '84 Quattro. DO co-own a forester, 'tho, so i suppose i qualify for this board. i'm younger than my audi - in dog years anyway, and live in hillsboro, or. interests include improving rallycross opportunities in the NW.

one group that has stepped up this winter is the Spokane motorsports club - they held a SWEET rallycross sunday, 11/13/05 in two inches of snow, and have another planned next month. catch them at www.autosportsnorthwest.org

are there others interested in OR/WA winter rallycross?

hope to see ya' in the dirt,

    bill
