Yesterday I changed the 4 instrument bulbs on the Baja instrument cluster. I did remove the cover for the gear shift as well since I wanted to see if there was a wiring harness for adding heated seats. BTW there wasn't. I did make a tool from a piece of schedule 40 plastic pipe to pop the clips. It worked well. I bought the bulbs from Ace hardware for $.75 each. After I buttoned everything up I discovered that the mini bulb for the cruise control was out, I guess a trip to Radio Shack is in order. Two questions. Under the drivers's seat is a black pigtail. Does anyone have an idea what it is used for? How can I post pictures to the site?

Two weeks ago I bought an 03 Baja that had bad HG. I have collected all of the parts but what type of sealant should I use for the valve covers? I am changing all of the pulleys and the belt tensioner as well as the water pump. When I removed the lower hose I noticed that someone tried to use a stop leak and there was crud in the water pump. I have a code that show that the upstream O2 sensor has a problem. Could the leaking coolant have caused this?

2 weeks ago I bought an 03 Baja. I knew that it needed HG when I purchased it. I think that I got it for a good price. I will be reading in USMB how to make my repairs

How do I remove the turn signal switch on a '2000 OBW?

Where is the knock sensor located on a '00 OBW. I looked under the intake maniford but did not see any. Thanks

Does anyone know if the trim (bumper) paint color of the '00 OBW paint is similar to the Ford titanium color? I need to repair and repaint my front bumper and have the Ford paint.

How do the swiches come apard on the dashboard of a '00 OBW? I read that the lower panel cover comes off then the switch should pop out. How does the switch come apart? Does it still use the Radio Shack mini bulb #7219?

I just had my '99 OBW done. The HG were replaced as well as the timing belt, Waterpump, Thermostat, cam seals as well as the oil seals. I am from W PA. The mechanic does at least 3 Subies a week here.

I'm soory that I did not mention that I have a '99 OBW. I am fairly mechanical and most of my own work. The left rear strut is leaking. The local autoparts store will loan me the spring compressor tool.

When I was rotating the tires I saw that one of the rear struts was leaking. Is this a job for a DIYer.

Here in Western PA we had a real nicemix of snow, ice, then more snow. My '97 OBW went through the unplowed street without any problem. After the city plowed the ice into my driveway I spun a little. I pulled foward, then got a little run and made it through. I could use better tires, mine are more than half gone.

How difficult is it to change the valve cover gaskets? I saw that the spark plug rubber rings should be changed as well. Do you remove the sparkplug and then pull out the tube like the old Mopar hemi? I have 120,000 on the car now. these gaskets have not been changed since I bought the car.

if not they sure do before the next timing belt change. You change these seals weather they are leaking or not.

Where are they located? I do all of my own work. How much of a pain is this to do. Here in W.PA the weather has been very cold for the past 2 weeks. This will have to wait for warmer weather. My garage was 27 degrees last week.

I replaced the timing belt and the water pump. I did not see any oil leaking at the time. Also I did not know how to change the cam seal. On the '97 there are 3 puddles sometimes. Other times it is either the right or left side of the engine.

I have 2 OBWs '99 & a'97. Both seem to be developing an oil leak in the front of the engine. I changed the timing belt and the water pump on the '97 @ 105,000 miles. What should I look for.

We have 2 OBW's. One is a 97' and the other is a 99'. Both have heat shield rattles. Is there a cheap fix?

We have 2 OBW's. One is a 97' and the other is a 99". Both have developed a whistling noise around 50mph. It is caused by an air leak. any ideas?

I have 2 OBWs. One is a 97 and the other is a 99. My son went off of the road and broke the right fog light and scraped the area around the fog light. I would like to putty this and painy the area flat black. Secondly, the rocker panel was pushed up but not causing a problem closing the door. Any suggestions on how to pull this back down. I do all of my own mechanical work.

Hi all,
Please buy a HAYES manual. It can be a real help. I changed the Timing belt at 105000. It was not really difficult but it is time consuming. The most important thing is not to move any of the pullys or you will throw the engine out of time. My total cost of materials was less than $100. I also changed the water pump. If you don't, Murphy's Law will prevail. Also check for any oil leaks. When you have the front covers off you can check the oil seals.

I recently bought ’95 Subaru Legacy with 2.2 l engine, car has 127k miles and I’m not sure when was the last time timing belt was changed. I called dealer and they want $450 for this job, sounds too much. I was wondering if someone here either knows a good Subaru mechanic in north Chicago suburbs area that you can recommend, or how difficult is timing belt job if I wanted to do it myself. If it’s not too complicated and I decide to do it myself what needs to be replaced and what’s the best place on the net or in Chicago area for parts. I’m kind of new with Subaru and I don’t really know much about this car so please help me with this project. So far I’ve only been working with BMWs in my garage and Subaru is totally new to me.
All responses are appreciated.
Thank you
Matt
