  1. Just redid the intake gaskets with oem subaru ones, my ex had used felpro ones and I first thought that was what the problem was. Is there anyway for exhaust to get into the coolant through the intake if it was cracked internally? Or is it just a head gasket even through it isnt even broke in yet form CCR.
  2. Hello, I have a 3" lifted 86 gl that has a ccr engine with about 3,000 miles on it. It has always had a problem that my ex would never address and now its out of warranty and Ive eliminated intake gaskets as them problem. I think the head gaskets gone, maybe not, but today I let if warm up and after the thermastat opened I have it seems exhaust in the radiator. bubbles, constant. Now it passed compression and a leak down on the radiator. I am at my wits end with fixing this car. I love it and dumped a whole lot of money into it but it seems no matter what I do somethings wrong with it. Is it time to trade it in for an outback? I did the spfi swap when we first put it together, could the throttle body have a crack in it somewhere? The inside looked a little hammered, not sure how but we bought it off of here yrs ago. Any suggestions? Not sure what to test next. With a new engine I shouldnt have to. That was the whole point of buying it since I knew the engine would never get rebuilt by my ex I opted for a new one. Thanks
  3. anyone figure out what was wrong with it? I have a similar problem and Im looking for answers Thanks
  4. I'll start checking things out. I dont think we have checked fuel press. or temp of pump etc.... As for the cranking, its a symptom that it did last time too, one month ago, about a month after swapping, it starting hard starting, long cranks and I found it odd but it still ran. Then about 2 weeks after the hard starting and getting harder to start, it died and would not start. We toke the pump off and tested it, dead in the wind. So we thought maybe it was just bad luck and tried just changing it. At first after the change it was harder starting, then it came back to normal. Now starting last week its hard to start just like before, so Im afraid the pump is gone again. A problem with the pump now is it doesnt start like it used to when you turn the key on. Only after cranking for a while does it prime it enough to run. I was wondering if there is something electronic thats causing it to go out.
  5. Hello, I have an 86 gl wagon with a new ccr engine, a 3.5/4" SJR lift, we put in power steering and recently swapped the leaky stock carb for a spfi that came off an 89 coupe. The problem is we put in a brand new $250 fuel pump, we had a return line hooked up wrong so we ended up filling the charcoal canister with gas and had to put a diff one in. Then it ran like a champ with power and increased gas mileage. Then the problem started, it not wanting to start unless it was cranked on. One day the fuel pump stopped. I looked up on here and found out the pump burnt out and we got a replacement and it fired up again. But I knew there was still an issue that was unresolved. I drove it anyways since we didnt have a back up car and now Im back to it having to be cranked and cranked til it fires, which means the pumps shot again. What would cause this? We followed the spfi conversion and cant think of anything that would be wrong. Would one of the new sensors be burning it out? Theres also a dead spot in the throttle when you step on it but I think thats unrelated. We are at our wits end with the car. Its my daily dr so I really need it running.... Thanks for any help If you want to email instead of replying my email is bowlinatwildbluedotnet
  6. Hello, I am new to posting. I have an 86 GL EA82 with 190,000 that keeps overheating. I never let it go in the red, but it gets up there, then I turn the heater on and it goes down. In the winter, its cold here, no probelms, just the summer. Timing belts were replaced, flushed the radiator ( myself), everything else seems to be in good working order. He doesnt smoke or use oil. Does have a slight lifter tap but thats it. What else can it be? I was thinking of having a professional radiator flush or getting a new radiator but dont want to waste the money if it wont fix it. Could the head gasket be leaking without major symptoms? Is there something I am missing. Any help is appreciated, Thanks- Chris
