When I turned the key to the on position, with both connectors disconnected, the check engine light just stays on solid. I get the same results with only the green connected or only the white connected. I was expecting the light to flash with at least one of these combinations, but I'm not seeing that.

When I connect both of them together the check engine light turns off when I start the car. It comes back on again after the engine runs for awhile.

Any ideas? Could I be doing something wrong or is it possible something is wrong with the ECU?

Thank you again for your time and help!

I'm no expert, but I've got a '93 Loyale wagon, and my light's on as well. But when you do the test, the CEL (check engine light) isn't the one that will flash. The light that will flash to give you the code is actually the LED on the top of a computer box thingy underneath the steering column. It's a real pain in the neck (and lower back) to get at:

Remove the knee panel beneath the steering wheel that keeps all the wires up underneath the dash. Lay on your back or your side, and look for a tan (on my car) colored metal box about the size of dvd case, only thicker. This unit is directly engine-ward from the spot where the steering column meets the dash, and you can only see it when your head is in the footwell. There is a 'slot' or 'opening' in the side closest to the underside of the steering wheel, and the LED is inside there. So, once the test leads are connected, and the key is in the ignition in the proper position (run?) you will see the LED blink a pattern.

Mine came back as "EGR Solenoid Valve".... but I still haven't gotten around to actually finding the EGR valve :)

  2. Last time I came down route 10 from Newport I noticed dozens of logging roads - south of Goshen, north of Keene. Shouldn't take you that long to scope it out. Let me know if you find anything.

I also remember a road out past King Ridge. Who knows if it's still there - I'm going back about 15 years here. You go past King Ridge, and just stay to the left. There was a trail that went up the back flank of the ridge, and there was a massive old estate up there. The estate was abandoned, and the area seemed littered with bike trails. Some may have been big enough for a car.

Of course, there's great stuff around Danbury and Grantham, but it's probably private.

  3. I just got a '93 loyale wagon, non turbo. I didn't know what to expect mileage-wise, so I was thrilled to find 31mpg on my first assay. That was a combination 1/3 NYC streets and 2/3 highway. I have since recorded 33.5 on a trip to New Hamshire, back roads and highway, about three hundred pounds of gear plus two adults. Intermittant A/C. A/C would send the temp. needle too close to the red zone for my comfort, so we limited its use to non-highway speeds.

    Oh - 182k.

You mentioned your problems with your wheel bearing. How did you 'know' there was a problem. My '93 Loyale wagon has a noise coming from the front passenger wheel, totally speed dependent, not correlated with accel, decel, brake, or steering. I suspected the wheel bearing, but when I jacked the front right and tried to rock the wheel top and bottom, there was no movement. Is there another way to check the bearing without pulling the hub apart?
