  1. Hello folks, I'm taking a crash course in replacing the water pump on my Subaru. I have most of the plastic around the timing belts off, and have decided to just cut the plastic guard (side nearest the passenger) rather than try to crank off the shaft to get to the final 2 "hidden" bolts on the water pump. My question is, now that I've done this terrible cutting thing, what will happen? (i.e. what to watch for - like the belts coming off or getting mud-clogged!) I only paid a thousand for the car, and they wanted to charge me $500 for one part! I figured for what I paid, I couldn't mess it up that bad! But then got to wondering what I've done...hmmm... Thanks for your input (or direction to a link if this has been discussed already). Tawnia
