tabo replied to asuman1179's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThat's what I did, and that's what got my car broken into. Unfortunately, they couldn't get the stereo out of the dash and ended up bending the stereo frame and cracking the faceplate support, rendering the unit useless. And no, the faceplate wasn't in the car, they can get replacement faceplates easily enough that it doesn't matter. $300 stereo, $150 window, 1 day off work to go to the junkyard for a used window and install the window (and just my luck it was raining), $50 for the console plastic and cupholder they ripped out. So I put the stock radio back in and wired the AUX port for an iPod. $30 for the DIN plug, wires, jack, a switch to enable the AUX port... and the security of knowing that thieves won't see anything worth breaking in for. I just picked up a '99 SUS, and am looking to wire the iPod to the AUX port. I happened to be in CC today and saw a bunch of random harness adapters, and was looking to see if anything might fit the AUX port. Yeah, I know I can buy two molex adapters, but if there's an adapter that might be close I'll give it a try. Just looking at the pictures by dpdemay to check the sizing of the port.- 1999 OBW tailgate won't unlock
tabo replied to johnc's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou've probably already fixed yours, but for posterity... Same thing happened to mine. There is (or maybe was) a spring that forces the handle back to the closed position. On mine, there's a bunch of rusted wire. When you press the lever, the spring doesn't return it back to the position. Sometimes the hatch won't close, sometimes it won't lock, depending on how far the handle returned, you had to manually push the lever back. I opened the back panel up once to see if I could put a spring on the actual locking mechanism, but I sold the car before I ever got around to doing it.- need to get more MPG in my '96 Legacy L 2.2 Liter w/ auto trans
tabo replied to Bright1's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXActually, the EPA estimates are done completely indoors, on a dynanometer. The driver runs through a "course", and the exhaust is captured and tested for emissions. Depending on the amount of carbon in the emissions, the EPA estimates the gas mileage. It's been a big issue recently, because hybrid cars have such low emissions the EPA estimages have turned out to be far too high, and people are seeing 30% less MPG than estimates. I have a 95 Legacy Wagon MT, with a roof rack, back full of junk, and I average 26 driving around NYC and the suburbs.- Legacy M/T shift linkage photos here!
tabo replied to BigMattyD's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHey that's great! Thanks for the pics! I've got a 95 legacy wagon and I was fiddling with the linkage this past weekend; the brushings are shot and the spring was missing. The spring was easily replaced, but I couldn't get at the linkeage easily. What's the best way to remove the linkage? Remove the shift lever bolt and then pop out the pin on the transmission side (where you have a carriage bolt)? The pin looked very small, anyone know if it screws or taps out? Thanks!- ignition question
tabo replied to bassfreq's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI had two ignition keys cut from a very worn original, and one day had to use the spare key. It worked fine starting the engine, but when I tried to remove it, it got stuck. I cursed, thumped the wheel, whimpered, and about five minutes later managed to get the key unstuck. I didn't have the original key so I had to reuse the spare. It got stuck again. Trying various things, I found I could remove the key while the engine was running! But when I turned it off, the key got stuck. Eventually I got it out, and then threw the spares away. I've been meaning to head to the dealer to get a real key cut; one dealer I went to said they couldn't do it even though I have an original key. Will go to another dealer this week.- Yakima rack for 95 legacy wagon
tabo replied to ronnie johhhnnn's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHere's a pic of my 95 Legacy Wagon and the Yak Rack, with no factory rack. I think the towers should sit higher on the roof, but it's such a pain to move everything around and I've got it really secure so it's not going anywhere. -Tabo - 99 obw with p117 CD player quetions
