Hi beam Low beam

Featured Replies

hi all,

i have a 2003 outback, i bought the original lights with HID, after installing them i figured out that maybe by mistake i switched the low beam to the hi beam wire.

can anyone help me to identify which is the low beam and which is the high beam in the light assembly.

i have two bulbs one is covered with a cap and the other one nothing on it.

thank you

The bulb with the "cap" is the low beam bulb. The reason it is there is to block light from being directed straight out from the bulb with no refraction pattern. This prevents other drivers from being night blinded when you drive by.

The low beam bulb is also almost always the outermost bulb in the assembly.

Thank you,

so the cap is used for the low beam light. in my car the bulb with the cap is on top near the hood and the other bulb is in the bottom near the bumper.
