June 15, 200322 yr Hi everyone. The tensioner for the AC drive belt cracked. My belts started squealing and I decided to check, good thing i did. The tensioner is tightened for the near future it should be ok to drive but eventually I want to replace the darn thing. Does anyone know the part number for this thing? I seem to be two parts, one is the wheel and the other is the rail mount. I attempted to paste a link to the pic, hope it works. Anyone know the price range for this thing? Thanks. <img src="http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-6/233953/tensioner.jpg" style="border:0;"/>
June 16, 200322 yr I wouldn't try to weld it. Just get a new one. If price is an issue, get one from a junkyard.
June 17, 200322 yr Wow! That shouldn't happen. Did you forget to loosen the pulley nut before trying to tighten the belt? Just get a used one from a junkyard. $5 ought to do it.
June 17, 200322 yr You can weld it to work the same as new, but if you can get one at a junk yard, that's the best bet.
June 17, 200322 yr Yup, i didn't loosen the nut before trying to adjust the pulley and the thing cracked. I went to the dealer and got that guide piece for ~$7. No wonder it cracked, it's plastic. I'll have fun trying to loosen the nut, there's only around 2" of clearance between the pulley and the fan. Thanks for the help everyone.
June 17, 200322 yr The old ones are metal, and what usually happens when someone does exactly what you did is the long bolt bends. I would say not loosening the idler pulley is probably a very common uh-oh.
