I am looking at doing the HG on my 98 2.5 DOHC engine from my OBW and wonder if I have to remove the cams ? I read Skips famous writeup and he did but is there a way around it? Do you have to remove them to get to the head bolts? Thanks!

No way around it. You have to remove the cams.

Man, I was afraid of that, it wasn't until the Phase 2 that you don't have to remove them?

Phase 1 2.2 and 1.8 you don't have to remove cams or valve covers. Phase 1 2.5 you do.

 

It's not hard. Just keep all the lifters in order.
