83 GL Parts

Featured Replies

Hi new subaru owner here,

I just bought an '83 GL for a winter car but am having some issues getting it to run properly. It has a high idle and seems underpowered so i took off the carb to clean it out. As I was taking it off some of the hoses crumbled and a couple of the wires coming out of sensors also disintegrated. Sorry I can't be more specific as to what they are, I'm used to working on Saabs and have no type of manual for this car. I'm wondering if there is anywhere I can order them online. I'm broke right now and can't get a new carb as it seems many people suggest so thats out of the question. I just moved into a town with only one parts store and everything is pretty pricey so I'm hoping someone has any suggestions. Loving the old school style tho... Thanks for your help.

well i just rebuilt mine for like 20.00(schmucks) . cheaper than 60 for one at junk yard thatll prolly need rebuilt anyways. and unless you have emissions to worry about alot of the vacum stuff isnt that big. i have one to my secondary distributor and one to my vacum chamber. im sure i left out one or two things but really itll run fine if you pretend your just mounting up a carb on an old v8

If you want a manual for it, I just saw the FSM (Factory Service Manual) in the Classified section on the forums here. I just picked mine up for 24 bucks, and it covers a lot of stuff, well everything about the car actually. Also there are some links online for the FSM as well...

There's my post with the links for the FSM and some other helpful manuals. I hope that this at least points you in the right direction, good luck!
