February 13, 201016 yr Hey, Looking into a 79 Brat... good runner 1.6L clean. Who here in washington could do an EJ swap? and how much $$$? I am not as good of a mechanic as I think I am. Looking for a clean swap. I posted this already but I think I put it in the wrong place...
February 16, 201016 yr Ha I had a 79 brat! Is that a direct bolt in or is there an adapter? I live in Washington and would love to help you if you're not too far away. I have a lot of Toyota and Mitsubishi experience. Will work for beer:)
February 16, 201016 yr Author Cool... not sure about an adapter. Beer is good. But now the little 1.6L is running so good I am starting to rethink things. But I'll keep it in mind:grin:
February 17, 201016 yr If you get serious about having an EJ swap done in your brat, keep me in mind. There is a lot more to it in the 78-80 Brats because the tranny needs to be changed out as well, and that requires more mods than you might think. Im always willing to make a deal -Bill
February 17, 201016 yr Author I will totally keep you in mind... I talked to you a year ago about doing a lift on my 94 Loyal... Well $$$ time and buying a house put that to rest for now. But now I have this Brat... I stole it for $450 from a guy in Kennewick. Wanted $700 and on my way down to get it he calls me and tells me his bottom line before we even got to that point. So now... How are your lifts coming? What would we have to do to the Brat to do the lift? and how much... "installed" I buy the beer. Nothing too radical 2" maybe 3" I am not sure when I can get the funds and the time but just checking it out... Thanks -Jake
February 17, 201016 yr Gen 1's are totally different to lift than Gen 2's or 3's, so the smallest lift kit I can make for them is a 4". But, I could lift it 2 or 3" with some tricks, but its not as easy as bolting on a 4".... -Bill
February 17, 201016 yr Author Ok... That being said 4" it is. Whatever would be easiest for you. I am still new to all this. Will the 1.6 still be ok? I'm not going to put huge tires on it.
February 17, 201016 yr with the right mods, for light off-road, the 1.6 will be fine. If you want to do any real wheelin with it, you will need a D/R and either a side starter bellhousing for a 1.6, or a newer motor with a side mounted starter. You wont be able to run anything bigger than 185/80/R13 tires unless you get some wheel spacers and run 14" or bigger rims. Thats 4" with 185/80 tires -Bill
February 17, 201016 yr Author Looks mean... I won't be doing any real hard wheeling But I think I would want a little bigger tire under it. Looking for some pugs, but if redrilled wheels are safe enough for highway use I wouldn't be against that. Thanks for your input... I really appreciate it. -Jake
