My 83 Wagon Speedo cable wont thread into the 88 RX FT4wd trans. Do I need to use an RX speedo cable or is it cuz the black piece in the bottom of the speedo cable hole needs to come out? It looks like its some sort of seal but I can't be sure cuz of the angle at which I can see it from the engine compartment.

on my 83 wagon, the original speedo would not thread in, because there is too much plastic before the treads, the hole is not deep enough (4wd 5spd)
