Radio Wiring Schematic for a 79 Brat

Featured Replies

Anyone have this by chance? I have a manual, but I looked through it a good 5 times and could not find the diagram for the radio in there, Just all the other wiring in the car.

I'm trying to install and after-market stereo. I do have a volt meter and could figure out what wires do what on the plug, but that would be time consuming and if one of you guys had a picture or be able to tell me what each wire is on the plug, that would be awesome!

It's really not too hard mate - four wires will be for the speakers (if you're only running two that is). Then (since it's not exactly going to have fancy automatic aerials etc) you should have four wires. Red for ignition power. Yellow for accessory power (constant always-on power), orange for the light dimmer (which you don't need if you don't want it, there probably isn't even a dimmer wire in a 79 BRAT ), and black for earth. I find it's best to create a new earth using a small lug attached to some bare metal behind the stereo, then use an existing earth. You can't always trust them in old cars.

Come to think of it, you might even need to wire up an accessory from something in the car, since it's so old. I did in my EA82, because for some reason it didn't have one, or if it did I must have missed it. I wired it off the door light circuit, seeing as that is a constant power.

A simple test light and some common sense should set you right. Have a few spare fuses handy in case you cross some wires.

Thanks, I know all that I just am not sure this the plug. Though it should be. It just has more wires going to it then I'm used to. Though I don't see what other plug it could be. The clock wiring branches off of this one and there are no other plugs around(my car didn't come with a radio.) So can anyone tell me if this is the actual plug? Because there are other colors besides the colors you just said above. That is why I am confused and what a diagram or something.
