Wont crank, just clicks

Here's the deal, my clutch started slipping, so I pulled the motor and installed a new clutch. Had some difficulty getting the splines to line up correctly on the motor and finally got it. I tried just turning the motor over with a wrench and couldn't do it and thought this was weird at the time(the tranny was out of gear.) I got everything back together and installed. I go to turn it over and it turns over and starts up for a few seconds, but it didn't last long because there was no fuel left in the system and it was still sucking it through. Was able to do this a few times and all the sudden it just stopped and would make a thud/clunk noise. I've had this happen a few times and I was thinking it was possibly a bad connection to the starter. I clean everything and tried it again, same deal. I tried jumping the power straight to the start as well and it did the same thing. I also tried turning the crank over by hand at this point again and it still wont turn freely even when out of gear.

I'm 99.99% sure I installed the clutch correctly, this is not the first one I have done. Any ideas or suggestions would be great. I really don't wanna pull the motor out again even though it only takes an 45 minutes.

Anyone??? Any suggestions at all? I really don't wanna pull the motor if I don't have to. Any other ideas on what it could be?
