July 13, 201015 yr I've recently become the proud owner of one 1993 Impreza L FWD sedan. Its a great car, and it fits me perfectly. Or I fit it. whichever. But having been bitten by a small tuner bug there are a few things I'd like to address. First of all the power isn't bad, it gets up and goes when I want it too, but I lose speed going up hills unless I floor it. Next, its an automatic 4spd, and I'd really enjoy the freedom and mileage I know I could have from a manual 5spd transmission. Lastly, and this will at some point tie in with my second point, but its FWD. I'd rather have RWD only, but I wouldn't mind at all having AWD. My first point is the more pressing matter of the 3, so to bring my Virgin post to a close, I ask if it would be more worthwhile to Buff Up the 1.8L which needs to be tuned up anyway, or start looking for a replacement motor? Ive heard good things about EJ22 swaps...
July 20, 201015 yr lol it sounds like you need to keep an eye out for a AWD version...EJ22 and FWD=mucho rubba smoko:lol:
July 26, 201015 yr I have a 97 Impreza with a N/A ej22 engine. The easiest things to do to it, to increase power, are an intake system, exhaust (cat back for me), and a lightened crank pulley. All of these are fairly straight forward. If I recall correctly, I have seen imprezas converted to RWD only. If you want an EJ22 with AWD though, I would suggest finding a different car as you are looking at a lot of work.
