02 toyota celica gts, trouble getting into 1st gear.

Featured Replies

I'm posting for a co-worker who drives the above. She is having trouble getting into 1st gear. She says its easier if she goes into reverse then into 1st.

Would this be a clutch cable adjustment? I do not want to advise her based on my Soob experience, but something tells me I may not be too far off base.

I couldn't locate an FSM or Haynes on the web that i could peruse.

Any help offered is appreciated very much! :)

Unfortunately, I believe those cars have a hydraulic clutch.

So, it may be a linkage problem.

Have her, or her mechanic, look at the linkage trail and see if there's anything

catching.

The trannies on the GTS SUCK, I went through 2 in 45k on my '00 GTS. I got accused of racing etc. , it was my commuter the problem ended up being the synchro's on the 6spd is of sintered metal construction so they would die young. The later models lasted a little longer because the Rev. limit was lower then the '00.
