Few questions regarding 97 Liberty

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I recently got my Gen 2 Liberty GX's EJ22 repaired due to a head gasket issue.

The heads were machined and the mechanic told me it was definitely a headgasket issue (I'd been using coolant and getting pretty hot.)

I have the gaskets, and as far as I can tell there is no evidence of a leak, no burns and no obvious liquid trails. Is this possible? I don't know much about the boxer design, and I'm trying to learn; hence asking this possibly stupid question.

Essentially, is it possible to have a head gasket leak, but have no obvious burn marks or liquid damage on the gasket, or have I been dudded?

Cheers guys.

Welcome to the USMB.

Unless you have a really bad leak or gasket blow out, it may be difficult to determine the actual spot where the leak occurred.

I had a small leak in my head gasket on my ej22t under boost, and I really didn't see any obvious spots on the gasket. So, yes it is possible.
