cel wiring?

Featured Replies

ea to ej swap . i was wanting to wire my cel to the ecs light but not sure which it is. this is a 85 gl the haynes schematic doesnt show the colors of the wires at the light connection.any help would be great thanks guys tried searching but struggling find it

I looked in my 86 FSM and the only thing I found was a red/blue wire from the check connector II by the wiper motor that went to the ECS light. I hope that helps some. How is your torque monster commuter beater project coming?

The ECS light is in the strip below the display, to the right of steering column.

Look at the circuit board on the back side for the ECS bulb.

There are 2 traces or contact points for that bulb.

Measure which one of the contacts has 12v current with the key on.

The opposite contact is the negative side, which is grounded by the ECU to light the CEL(ECS)

Trace that contact back on the board and identify which wire in the loom it goes to. Hook the EJ CEL wire to that one.

ok thanks ill do that .it still needs align and i got a couple of bugs to work out ruff idle until 1200 rpm then fine.missing at idle thats why i want to get the cel wired in

Might be an IAC issue.

Early ECUs, when the ECU can't control Idleing via the IAC, it cuts fuel to the #1 injector.

But like you said, it will be easier to diagnos if the CEL is working.

Yup, 90-01 Manual trans models used a simple single coil IAC. (2 contacts, 12+v and ECU controled Ground)

All the Autos, and all enignesafter until 99 used the dual coil(3 contacts, 12v+, and 2 ECU controlled grounds)
