87 gl-10 auto trans problem

Featured Replies

I have a 1987 Subaru gl-10 1.8 turbo 4x4 that is not wanting to shift right and I'm wanting to find out a little more about it.

With park reverse neutral drive 2nd 1st slots. First thing is when you put it in drive it wont shift to 2nd 3rd or overdrive it just stays in first but if you put it in the 2nd gear slot it will go into 2nd what will it take to fix the trans so that it will shift thought all the gears and when in 4x4 it wont go into 4 high it only stays in 4 low that is if it has 4 high as stated below I don't know if it has 4 high as some of the subarus didn't come with 4 high also the cruise control don't work ether.

Then was wanting to know on this car does it have dual range 4x4 or just low range and if not can I get one for it and how will I know how to find it.

Also I was wondering it looks like the person who had it before me took out the adjustable height shocks and put regular ones in where can I get one that will work with my car and the adjustable height stuff the car already has for cheep

And is there any way I can make the car rwd but still have the option of 4x4

I will assume form you description that you have a 3at. GD will probably chirp in here and say do a 5 speed swap and he is right unless you have some medical reason to have an auto.

As to the up shift problem check the governor on the upper front passenger side of the trans. It is under the domed cover held on by 3 bolts. Check the gear on the end for damage ( apple coring ). If it is you can replace it but it will probably not last very long. If it is not do a search ( or go to the repair section ) and find the thread about unsticking the governor and follow it.

In general you should also check the vacuum modulator and adjust the 2-3 band as well as a fluid change.

As far as high low these trans only had high and forget about rwd.

hi, the coolant temp sensor for the FI , or the connections to it are the first suspect, the air thing on the throttle body can cause trouble, the air flow meter and especially air leaks anywhere in the entire intake system ,, look for cracked hoses and hoses that may have fell off ,, anything that can let air into the intake system.
