May 16, 201114 yr i have a 96 legacy awd that has been overheated way to many times heads are warped) it has a 2.5 in it now , the only engine i can find is a 2.2 from a 96 imprzna does anyone know if it will bolt in ? Both are automatic transmissions if not will anything else bolt right in place ?
May 16, 201114 yr The Impreza engine will work if you use it's Y-pipe. Confirm that the 2.2 has an EGR (it should). Many other years of 2.5 and 2.2's will fit - most common other component needed could be a single port Y-pipe. Donor MUST have EGR.
May 16, 201114 yr Welcome to the USMB. Many threads similar to the question you're asking. Try the search function but here are some basic answers: The Impreza engine will work if you use it's Y-pipe(single port). Confirm that the 2.2 has an EGR (it should). Many other years of 2.5 and 2.2's will fit - most common other component needed could be a single port Y-pipe. A 95 2.2 automatic (has EGR) is the most direct fot (has a dual port Ypipe and is non-interference) so it's the preferred replacement engine. Donor MUST have EGR.
May 16, 201114 yr Author ok i will find out if it has egr valve it does not have the pipe with it so i will have to buy one but thats not a big issue. I tried the search but this is all new to me (suburu) I am a diesel guy doing this for my oldest son. did the search but unsure of what i was looking for when it came to ej motors and such. Couldnt find a listing for putting a detroit 60 series from a peterbuilt in a suburu/ LOL. Thanks for the input will keep you posted
May 16, 201114 yr My DD is a VW diesel. I have one single port Ypipe left to sell. If you need it PM me. There are always recent threads with basically your question. And there was a recent thread a fella started to complain that in his situation some of us told him he should consider a 2.2 swap rather than fixing a 2.5 with unknown history. By making him aware of his options somehow he was bothered by that. Lots here, and a helpful bunch. But still best to use search and research a bit first.
